So my mother in law just bought this 99 GP GT, and it seems pretty solid. A few problems here and there, nothing I can't handle. It sounds like it's got a bad wheel bearing in the back while cruising, but they're both tight once they're in the air. The PO blamed it on the GXP brakes he put in the back (but stock 11 inch fronts? lol), which I call BS. ABS lights aren't on or anything, and they all roll smooth. The only thing I can find is on the driver side rear when I push in on the top of the tire it moans as it turns. Hard to explain, I think that this is the bad bearing, but I wanted a few opinions before I replace it. Kind of hard to explain the sound, so I took a video of it. That's right, we have that kind of technology these days:

It's my mother in law's car so you can understand that I don't want to be wrong, lol.

Simple way to know for sure. A wheel bearing isn't going to typically get horrible or hurt anything else on the car/fall apart. Therefore if you let it go a bit longer, it should show itself better.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I just did my son's 98 Monte Carlo that had a bad rear wheel bearing. It had a definite hum that got louder as you accelerated. Everything initially was tight so I pulled the wheel off, then thought it may just be pads against the rotor. Took the pads off to find them showing hardly any wear. Once the pads were off and you could spin the wheel on its own it was very clear the bearing was bad. It sounded like marbles rattling around behind the wheel.

Have you determined what was causing the noise in the '99 GT?
You said that you checked the rear wheel bearings for any play and they both were tight. I have seen wheel bearings that were tight and still made noise. With the tires removed and the emergency brake off, try spinning the bearing and check for any sign of roughness. I replaced both rear bearings at 100,000 miles in my 40th Ann. GP and installed Timkin bearings (the original equipment bearings were not even bad, but I was installing new struts, springs, trailing arms, rotors, calipers, so I figured what the hell replace the rear bearings also) At 180k miles, the rear driver side bearing started making noise and after driving with this bad bearing for a thousand miles or so, it got really bad. With my GP in the air, I could not detect any play in the wheel. But with the drivers side wheel removed, I tried spinning the bearing and it was hard to turn and I could feel the roughness of the bearings.
Also, check the e-brake shoes. I also have GXP brakes on my 40th ann. and when I replaced the wheel bearing, I removed the e-brake shoe. I removed the shoe with the wheel bearing still in place not knowing that the bearing needed removed first, then the e-brake shoe. After having the rear GXP rotors cleaned up and reinstalled, the e-brake shoe was tight inside the rotor. It made lots of noise when driving, sounding like the one on the Youtube video that you were referring to. The only way I could correct this was to remove the e-brake shoe and the noise was gone.

My 98 GTP SC makes the same noise. Once I get up to 30 mph the knocking sounds starts. Sometimes it stops knocking at 50+ mph. My steering wheel shakes even my car shakes. It's reallyyy annoying .. I replaced the front passenger tire a few times. One man shoke I believe what is the wheel bearing. Could it be loose? Or replace it?
