Thread: HELLPPP! Need some help with bleeding brakes issue

Alright so I attempted to swap out my stock front brakes for the 06 impala brakes today. Got everything installed/bolted back up. Didn't open up any of the rear lines, just the fronts. Bled both front calipers probably 10 times, always starting with the passenger side first. Didn't feel any better, still went to floor. Noticed there was a bleeder screw on the abs pack, haynes manual said to bleed that first and then do the calipers. So did the same bleeding method I did for the calipers ONLY on the front bleeder screw for the front brakes. Then I did the front calipers again. No difference. Tried a gravity bleed on both fronts. (just leaving the bleeders open and letting it drip). Then rebled each caliper. No difference. Tried bleeding several more times. No difference, pedal still goes to floor. What could be the damn issue with this??? I have to call out of work tomorrow because of this hold up. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!


This is on a 98 Regal. Yes I realize this isn't a GP, but same system.

any chance your bleeders are on the bottom of the calipers? if so they are on wrong. well the wrong sides, they would need to be swapped to the other sides to make the bleeders be on the top.

if they bleeder is up top, did you let the master go dry? if you did you need to bleed the master via them abs bleeders, do the further back one first, then the front one second. bleed them just like a caliper. pump pump pump, hold, crack the bleeder, make it tight then let the guy on the pedal let the pedal up and repeat till no more air comes out.

bleed all this car off. calipers too.

I have ran into issues where you need to have the car running when you bleed the brakes to make sure you get all the air out of the ABS.

its a regal thing, no where here it says to run the car. unless using q tech 1 or 2 scanner.

i think you hit the nail on the head, come to think of it, I'm 99% sure the bleeders are on the bottom on each side. Didn't even cross my mind.


I don't think I should have to bleed my rears if I didn't open the rears right?

it cant hurt to bleed the rears, or even flush them to new clean fluid.


yeah bleeders on the bottom never works out lol flip em over start over you'll be fine.

so were clear, the pass side needs to be put on the drivers side, driver side to the pass side. thats the only way the bleeders will be up.

only reason im hesitant doing the rears is because Im on the ground outside, on the lawn. but ill give that a go tomorrow and I REALLY HOPE that fixes it, thanks!

put a board under your jack, you'll be fine.
