i'll lean the other way and say check your sway bar... hard to spot but mine did the same and was busted right outside the left side inner mount.

i'd guess it's the strut bearings. but i went out and bought some for my car because it was doing the same thing and found out it was a broken coil spring. hopefully yours isn't that severe! iv'e also had cars in the past where i misdiagnosed it as a strut bearing and it was actually the end link of the sway bar like 59chevy said. good luck.

    UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!
turns out the sway bar endlinks were broken, i replaced the whole thing with the GMPP version. i also replaced the passenger side wheel bearing which was also shot. the car is much stiffer now and no more clunking

good! that was an easy fix (compared to strut bearings). i may have the same problem, i have a little clunking when i put it in reverse, and over some hearty bumps. i'll have to check my sway bar too.

sway bars right behind the end link connection is a weak point and seem to crack and break,

I have a thread around here about the very same issue. I replaced nearly everything and then finally got GMPP sway bars for Christmas. After the install, the issue was gone, so I believe mine was solved by the new front sway bar bushings.
