I want to say 35mm.
34mm or 36mm depending on what's been changed on your car in the past. You also need a 13mm 6 sided socket for the bearing bolts and a 15mm socket for the brake caliper bracket.
Any need for a hub puller/separator? Shop manual calls for one but eh?
sometimes the axle splines will rust in the hub, a 3 gear puller hooked to the hub, and the drive bolt of the puller on the axle will push it out if its not free. and if you get a 36 mm socket it will fit loosely on the 34 nut and still work. that way you are covered.
once the 3 bolts are out you'll need to beat it out with a baby 3 or 5 lb sledge hammer. i just whack it a few times on opposite sides till its out.
last one i did the back cover was stuck in the knuckle, so i used a punch to pop it out of the knuckle.
Cool - good to know!
My new(owner) '04 GP GT yesterday started making a groan that's audible on the inside only at 25-35mph.. I'm not sure it's the bearing but after hearing how common those are to go on these cars (it's got 100k miles) I'm hopeful that it's that and not something worse (like a trans issue). Will do some digging..
sounds like a bad hub, jack the wheel up, lugs tight, grab the tire at the 12 and 6 o clock areas, and do a push pull deal with your hands, if the wheel moves, the hub is bad, if the abs or trac lights are on that hub could be the cause if you have play in it.
bad hubs have also made my brakes feel weak. felt like new once the new hub was in. im pretty sure its due to the brakes not being able to clamp on the rotor if its moving side to side.
oh and if the axle is stuck in the hub, first thing to try is to put the bolt so its over the ends of the axle threads, then hit it with a hammer, if it dont pop, then break out the puller to force it free.
