i feel as if i will never finish this project, breaker bar is amazing, 123 bolts off....and hm....why the caliper wont slide off...wait...the instructions state pull foward from the back of the caliper and up..ok....umm....YEAH NOT COMMING OFF DAMN PEICE OF ^*&(*&(#)(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so after i chugged an ice cold miller lite to calm myself i sat and poked it for a few min and just put the bolts back on and the wheel....and gave her a bath...HOW THE @$(#$ do i get the damn caliper off now LOL
pull harder.
really, the issue is just that the pressure of the piston is getting it hung up, pull from the back pretty hard and it should force the piston back in some, then it should come off.
i didnt wanna pull to hard lol, i figured it was the pressure of the piston but the car rocked a bit each time and iw as like umm....yeah dont need this thing to come down (even tho i had it jacked with stands) ok so pull harder got it, haha tomorrows project AGAIN!
just use a breaker bar and be done with it
my portable sears craftsman tool set thats always in my car, I leave a piece of conduit pipe in their that like 12 or so long. I just slide the conduit pipe over my 3/8 drive ratchet which in effect doubles the length of the ratchet which increase my torque capacity greatly. Otherwise I just use my 1/2 drive breaker bar when ever I'm in the garage.
can't you just use a clamp on the piston to hold it in while you slide the piece off? just tighten the clamp down to reduce the pressure?
I bought a 24" breaker bar thinking if 18" is good, a 24" one is better ... well I didn't have room to swing it with all of the slop in the socket and tools so I almost gave up.
I had a flash of inspiration and put the front on ramps long enough to get underneath and use the breaker bar on both sides. Then I got the car off the ramps and jacked it up.
I got both sides done yesterday with a little propane torch help to loosen the parts that were still sticking and making it a bear getting the bolts out. Now I just have to do the rear brake pads and rotors which should be interesting with the e-brake and all.
Thanks for the help!
little over kill with the torch lol my bolts were really stuck so with the breaker bar on the bolt/or nut, i just grabbed my handy dandy hammer and WHACK WHACK i hear the creak of the bolt/or nut and then it was smooth sailing
