Thread: looking into Sundown

in the process of dumping my GP in favor of a park avenue ultra. gonna start putting
a system together. i been researching Sundown Audio. anyone have any suggestions
or recommendations. not trying to break the bank just getting some bump. i hit 129
wit 2 street edge 10's few years back and they only $20 a piece brand new

please so many other brands off much better for less. jl audio = paying for name brand big whoopdie.

edit to the op 129 on a termlab mic? obviously it was a pretty decent box build.
a decent box can make average equipment perform pretty well!

I liked my JL stuff...but my sister store was an authorized retailer so I got it at cost (super cheap.) My little 8w7 was very impressive for what it was. My next audio build will be based around Sundown or Fi Audio though...haven't decided yet.

ive owned a lot of different audio equipment over the years for various purposes and quality ranges and perfer the sound of JL to most everything else ive had the pleasure to listen too.

IMHO when you buy JL you buy good american built equipment. not saying there isnt other good stuff out there it's just what i perfer.

jl amps thats one thing but subs not a chance overpriced and way more american companies that make solid equipment for less!

ive hit 148 on a termpro on the windsheild in a 96 gtp no back seat all below the window line....
180 amp alt
2 batteries in the tire well. (capicitors suck use a batcap)
10,000 watt ma audio amp 4400 rms @ .5 ohm mono. 24v supply from the batteries! (yes it handled it just fine, amp had digital voltage display so that was handy!)
2 12" ma audio hard kore subs getting 2200 rms each.
3/4 inch mdf doubled up 18inch L shaped ports box tuned to 38hz.
designed on some audio forum i dont remember what one. this was back in 2004 in high school lol.

im just talking **** man. that sounds like a badass system. for SPL my favorites of the subs i used were the DD's

Never heard JL in anything. A buddy of mine swears by DD, but i cant justify the price tag. I've owned RF,
Pioneer, Street Edge, and Alpine in my lifetime. Just came across this company and thought i would look
them up. So, i have always been good at buying speakers, but not at amps. If i were to run 2 of the
SA-8's rated at i think 300rms per. What's a decent sized amp to power them. Mind you im trying to
win competitions, but just something that sounds good around town.

ill point you back at JL cause im a fanboy. seriously for a dont break the bank their JX series stuff is pretty decent. i have been out of major car audio so long i wouldnt know what else to point you at.

always wanted to run some 8s in the rear deck where the oems are with about 400w each and then a good set of components in the doors with a small amp for those. simple system that wouldnt take up a ton of room.

so with those 2 SA-8's and this planet audio amp. i should be o.k?

because hidden box! make it fit the rear deck and to the tops of the strut towers ive seen an Altima done like this that turned out damn nice and didn't waste space. this type of box basically uses the top of the rear deck as the top side of the box. and its easier to make a box for each sub instead of trying to seal it off as one box.

the amp was screwed to the bottom of the box so that was in a good spot too.
