Thread: stock monsoon cutting out at higher volume...

so about 2 months after i replaced rear speakers with the infinity ref 6x9..the amp seems to cut out at higher volumes,now i can leave it on a pretty high level and its fine,but if you turn it up it goes"click" and only thing left is my sub and rear tweeters...maybe front tweeter too,im not sure on the fronts.guess its a circuit
breaker as it comes back on after awhile? is this the beginning of the end of my stock unit?

In the stock Monsoon system, the rear speakers are driven by a left and right channel for the mid range speaker cones, and a subwoofer channel that drives both side's large cone. If you're replacing the OEM speakers with aftermarket, you've got choices - use the mids, use the subs, or tie both together. I tried all three and wasn't happy with the results. I think that the Monsoon amp has internal crossovers tuned for the OEM speakers.

The same goes for the front. The two 6.25 speakers and the front door tweeters are both the same channels with crossover applied. What I never did figure out was the dash speaker.

I scrapped it all in mine and replaced the Monsoon amp with a Pioneer four channel unit.

I believe your amp is taking a dump.

i tied them all together by seperating the wires in the new speakers.i snipped the wires going to the tweets on the new speakers and the wires going to the woofer of the new speaker. so when i held the new speaker in my hand i has 2 sets of wires. by using the color code i wrote down prior to ripping things apart i was able to hook speakers up correctly. not a very good sound id say,but was def better than my popping and cracking i had prior to replacement. i might actually unhook them and crank it up and see what happens then..id really hate to have to dump the head unit and buy all those dam adapters needed. i really like the 6 disc changer..

I don't think your problem is in the head unit.

seems funny though i hook up new speakers and now theres an issue.maybe amp is workin to hard trying to push them? i got 2 ohm as the old ones were 2 ohm as well.. worse case maybe a 4 channel amp would be a solution..?

so i unhooked the woofer part on both of the rear speakers and it seems fine. guess they are drawing to much current for the amp causing it to cut out? so now i have just the rear tweets..kinda "trebley" sounding but ill take that over the mess of a sound i had with the blown factory ones. i faded more to the front and switched the treble switch on the 6x9s so they arent super ear piercing and with the subs in the trunk it does good enough for now.yes i would hate to attempt a aftermarker amp with the stock unit..talk about time consuming... also is there a set of wires pre monsoon that would give full range? that might be a option to try as well?

Not that I am aware of. To install an aftermarket amp to replace the Monsoon amp and still retain the OEM head unit, you'd have to hack into the Monsoon amp's harness and still run a separate power feed to the trunk.
