    MY SPECS:
    05 grand prix base model
    on star (never used)
    non-monsoon system
    WHAT I WANT:
just to be able to hook up an after market head unit with ease
dont care if i lose on star
dont care if i lose door chimes

Yeah, that should work. I think there are some options in you DIC that you'll lose as well, like date/time. You will also have to run your own switched 12v line, you wont be able to use the one on the main harness.

Yes, if you can find a switched 12v at your fuse box. And that harness looks like it comes with one.

You'll lose door chimes, date on DIC, and anything else that runs through R.A.P. Unless you tap into another R.A.P. system for power your radio won't turn on either; you'll have to add a switch and use 12V-always_on for the power source

Sunroof fuse is the best one to tap into, and you have one regardless of having a sunroof or not.

The only reason to why you wouldnt get any sound is because something wouldnt be hooked up right, other then that from what I know and as long as you wire the harness correctly no problems.

People are running into "no sound" because they are not hooking up the stock amp turn on. You said you dont have monsoon, so you wont have this problem. If you dont have power to your radio, you are not on a 12v circuit.

one other question i have is that today i went to take out the head unit to make sure i knew what i was doing and everything would go smoothly before i just dived into it head first. so my question is that on the back of the head unit it has two plug ins but the adapter only has one. why is this? or is this a problem?

and this is the correct fuse right? the far left yellow one

Im thinking the second harness behind your radio is probably for your steering wheel controls. As for the fuse, Im not sure. You'll have to test for the correct one.

That fuse is the correct one.

The second little black connector from the back of the radio is for onstar if you have it, xm radio if you have it, and monsoon system i beleave has a wire or two in it as well if you have it.

If you have a non bose system you only need the bigger grey connector to be used. your factory radio should work no different if you try using it with this connector unplugged.
