I took the battery out on my 2004 Grand Prix GTP(Monsoon stereo sysetm) and now the stereo wont work. I took it to a local GM dealership to have it reset and they said its not showing any codes or anything when they hook it up. Does anyone have any idea on why that would happen and what my options are? They want to charge me $125 an hour to take out the radio and try and find the problem. Would i be better off just putting in an aftermarket radio or what? Who knew taking out a battery could cause so many problems.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tried looking up codes for quite a while. On the 2004+ you have to take it to the dealership unless you have the code, which i dont because i bought it used and of course no manual was included. Go figure.

theres a few guys here who work at dealerships, maybe one will find this, and with your vin can find it for you. i know how bad having no radio can be.

I'd call around and get a better price. Even Sears probably has a TechII.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

If its locked you need a tech2 to run a radio setup (that's typically what happens when the battery gets pulled) . If it's not working at all ex. No power up, clock won't show up etc. A fuse could be the culprit (pull the radio and make sure the thicker orange wire on the radio has 12v if the fuses are good) . If you have the time you could send it to us we have free estimates. your only responsible for shipping if no problems are found or you decline a repair. We are located in Michigan

Actually, checking the fuse is brilliant. Removing the battery absolutely will not lock up the stereo.

Not nessesarly true. I've seen it happen many times before not as common though.. More so on the older radios that you physically have to enter a lock code using the preset buttons. We've got a hotline number for those.

Typically radio locks because someone swaps a radio into a different vehicle and it doesn't recognize the Vin. Thus a radio setup is required
