You strip some coating off the wire, poke a hole into it with a pick, put the wire you are adding on through the hole, close the hole and wrap your new wire end around the closed connection. Tape and smile.
Thats exactly how I was taught. I believe it's called a military tap. After I tape it, I put a zip tie around the wire I tapped into and the alarm wire. This will secure it so the wire can't be yanked out and the tape will not come undone.
