As some of you know, i just put in a 12in Alpine Type R.

1500 Watts Peak and 500 Watts RMS.

It sits in a small ported box for now.

But my question is, what amp should i get? I want something reputable and will really push the Type R.

I want the amp between 1200 - 1500 watts Mono block.

On ebay they are a lot, and for cheap too but i dont trust a lot of the brands, such as, Boss, Planet Audio, American Bass, Audiopipe, Soundstream, Lanzar, Power Acoustik, Hifonics, Etc... But i honestly dont know if they are "good"

I was thinking about going with a Kenwood but brands such as Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Rockford Fosgate are much more expensive than those i just listed above. So should i go with the more expensive or is it unnecessary?

    Any thoughts/Suggestions?

I'm not a good person to ask for this, but I really enjoy JL amps. The 500/1 would be perfect and can be had for about $150-$200 on craigslist.

I must respecfully disagree here... the Lanzar Opti series of amplifiers and components is awesome. Some of the Opti subs are decent as well.

I am a massive Pioneer fan but right now the best amps on the market would be the new Kenwood. I just bought a monoblock Kenwood amp and it was the best choice I have ever made when it came to sound systems. I also really like the Alpine V-Power amps but the Kenwood over all is soo good over all.

Alpine mrm-500 was designed for the R-type subs and vice versa. 500 watts RMS @ 2ohms, only problem with this amp is it is not 1 ohm stable.

I've installed and upgraded a few systems in the last couple years as just little hobbies. My last amp upgrade was to a Kenwood Excelon KAC-8105D 1000 Watt Mono to power my 2 10" Kicker CVR in a ported box, operated from the Alpine XDA-305. The amp is very efficient for $100 when i purchased mine a year ago. Definitely money well spent. The amp imo, is small and nice to look at. It you have blue ambient lighting in your vehicle then I'd recommend showing this amp off as part of your ambiance. It has never over heated on me even in the record breaking heat of Nebraska weather (109 degrees F outside my black 05+ GP GT). My levels and gain are even dipped a little low just in case, I know I could blow my subs with this amp (especially if I installed a capacitor to my system). Check their equipment out, other wise stay with Rockford, Alpine, Kicker, JL for your popular brands. Maybe even look into Soundstorm, not as popular but I trust their quality.

Well I worked for a jl audio dealer for 6 years and if you can get a 500/1 for 150-200 bucks I'd definately pick one up , its a tuning freaks dream amp extremely versitle amp , and its very easy on the charging system , no extra battery or cap , its maintains the same amount of output power all the way down to like 9 volts and has a very tightly regulated power supply . I have taken that amp and ran it to all sorts of sub combinations from 4 8w3 in a BMW to 2 18's in a hoop . Pound for pound one of the best amps I ever sold !!!!
