So I bought this car (97 gtp) that has HID ballasts and bulbs installed. They seem to be working fine but I think there may be a power issue. While i'm driving I notice alot of subtle flickering with the interior lights and dash lights, but when I park and turn the headlights off it goes away. Any ideas where I can start?

Are you running power from the battery or tapping into the headlight wiring for power?

That is a good question, I do believe it's from the headlight harness, a plug and play version, but i'd have to check tomorrow in the light.

These ballasts are plugged into the stock headlight socket for power. I also notice that after driving if I park, the lights will go screwy; alternating from one to the other and sometimes the drivers side goes out completely. Could this also be a bad ground? I read a "how to" and it said to disable DRL and security flashes, could this have buggered up the bulbs or ballasts?

Sounds like you need to buy a heavy duty harness. Are your ballasts 35w or 55w? If you buy a harness i would suggest you pick one up from theretrofitsource.com well worth it in quality wiring.

They're 35w ballasts. And what do these harnesses you're referring to do?

Thanks for the replies, upon inspection, these are slim ballasts with 35w ignitors. They're wired fully into the stock socket strictly for signal, ground and power. I think I may swap these out and put stock headlights back in.

that would be the easiest way to trouble shoot if it is the HID set-up or not..then go from there..grab some 9006s or borrow some just to see

Thats what I was thinking. I have the original bulbs in a box and the HID kit seems pretty easy to swap in or out.
