Driver Instrument Cluster.
The buttons and screen in the middle of the dash that displays mileage, date, and so on. There is an option to disable remote start via the DIC.
Since it it's setting off the alarm when your trying to use the remote I suspect its the remote boards itself.
Try holding the lock button, then while still holding the lock button push and hold the panic button and see if it starts for you.
Had a few do this and it has always been the remote at fault everytime so far with these things.
I had a similar issue in my 2001 Grand Prix GT, and for a very odd reason. The key fob was only occasionally unlocking the door. Turning the car on would set off the alarm. Turns out my battery was the culprit, it had been the victim of serious corrosion. Unhooked it and cleaned the corrosion off, used a battery tester and it was only putting out about half the CCA I needed. For some reason, this was triggering the alarm. New battery fixed the problem entirely. When's the last time you replaced your battery?
So op how well did replacing just the rubber work for you?
A 2001 remote is a completely different design than an 07.
