Thread: 4 Channel Amp Help!

I just recently purchased new front and rear speakers for my car. The fronts are rated at 250RMS and the Rears at 300RMS. I want to buy a four channel amp because I feel as though the sound isn't "full" enough and I think it is because the speakers are being underpowered by my deck ( correct me if im wrong ).

What I need to know is how many watts should I be looking for from a four channel amplifier. Also, Im pretty new to car audio, I have no idea how to go about hooking one up, I can run the power ground and remote wires no problem, I just have no Idea how to get the sound to the speakers, my deck has rca outputs on the back of it for speakers..would the amp just connect to those via rca cables? and then just run speaker wire from the amp to the speakers?

Any help is appreciated!

id like to stay under 200$ if possible, ill be looking for an amp on kijiji

That does look like a good one, would 1000W be to powerful for my speakers? and do you think having an amp hooked up to speakers makes a big difference? I have heard from ppl that it does, but i have never listened to a system with speakers on an amp.

Honestly, without a subwoofer to keep up with, I believe about 50-60 watts x4 rms would be more than enough. However, with the larger amp, you'd have the room to up the power when you begin to feel that it's too quiet.

I have 2 10s running on 500W, so thats probably why i feel as tho the speakers arent loud enough, the bass is just too powerful sometimes.

Ah... yes, that tends to happen. 75 watts RMS will be more than adequate in my opinion. However, were I in your position, I'd go ahead and get the 125x4 because of the headroom, and the fact that you can simply run more power when you feel the need to without switching amplifiers.

Ya I will most likely go with the 125x4, thats right in my price range and the reviews for that amp are all good. Thanks for the help, Ill report back once I get the amp ( will most likely order next week ) and hopefully you can help me with any install troubles i come across.

I'm curious as to what speakers are 300 watts RMS? Or even 250 watts RMS? Are these speakers or subs?

I think that's what I might do, like i said, i just want a little louder and clearer.

Those speakers look like they'll do the trick.

All this talk about 4 channel amps is kinda making me think about getting one myself.... I don't know how well a 2 amp system in my car would work though since I already got a 1000 watt Class D.

Also, I already have an 8 gauge wire running to my amp for my sub, could I just tap into that, or should I run another line from the battery?
