The voice coil is still dealing with back pressure from the box since the cone is still attached to it's air space/receiving back pressure. So it really isn't like dealing with IB in any way shape or form.Quote:

Go to an audio competition and listen to different setups. Notice their mid configuration in comparison to subs.
He's using the knob probably between different kinds of music and probably wants to keep it that way. I'm keeping my stock unit so I needed to get a level knob or some music just wouldn't sound right. Someone said that the knob would short the amp out and that it should be left alone - why would there be a 15' cord to put by a driver seat if it shouldn't be used. I don't know about his but mine just adds a potentiometer inline with the level on the amp so the knob can only turn the amp as high as set on the amp. However, remote bass boost can hurt an amp when turned up a lot.
To OP, you're best bet is to get you another knob. If you have an aftermarket head unit, many of them have a subwoofer control in the music settings that allow you to set it from like -3 to +3 which would give you the type of control over the bass you are looking for. But the amp gain should gave been set with this turned up if you plan to use it. Any eq setting you use on the hu should be factored in when setting gain. Most write-ups say to use a flat eq which is great but when you change all the settings you can then clip the amp.

i can change all that in my HU but its easier and more convenient just to control it with the knob
my sub level on the HU goes from -6 to +6 and i was told to put it at -6 my the shop i go to but i didnt like that so its at +4 now

the gain is just both max and the low pass is at 50hz and where it says remote is where the knob goes
turn ya amp off full it will keep trying to throw words out the woofers.. will also mess them up too.. put it on lph... and feel more bass
ive been tryin to figure that out for years, the shop that installed it setting it like that and the only setting ive changed is the gain
dam... everytime i buy somethin.. ill sit and play with every feature to learn it... but flip the switch and see what you get.. then mess with the gain.... and the low pass knob

imm flip it when i get it hooked up, my speaker wire is to short to go around the box so i had to fix that first

Inside the box...does each speaker have it's own chamber? Or do they share common air space? Flip the + and - wires on one of those subs if they share common air space.

i myself have 3 12's in a shared airspace and it sounds dam good...
The issue is with polarity. As far as I'm concerned I'd rather have separate chambers for all of my speakers.Quote:

If this kid has two woofers sharing common air space but facing different directions it's necessary to reverse polarity before something is damaged because he can't "hear" anything due to the cancellation. Next thing you know...gain goes up, bass boost goes up...BOOM!!!!
Honestly, even if they do maintain separate chambers there's probably cancellation. They need to play together, not AGAINST each other.
Just get a DD9512, or a Sundown nightshade. All you need is one to get you near 150db!
when i hear this problem i usually tell ppl to go thru their wiring.... and make sure NOTHING is backwards.. second i say look at the amp and make sure its on lph.... check ya wires.. if you got over 1000 watt setup get thicker wire.. for better crisp sound.. idk about all that im just a backwoods music guy.. im not with crossin or reversing nothing lol just hwo i am
I understand...I'm a very methodical person. I try to take into consideration the science as well as the fact that there isn't any real way to guesstimate what will happen.
Car audio is one big guess. But I certainly understand cause and effect in this specific matter. Since most people don't have any idea what they're hearing anyways, they don't notice cancellation, second and third order harmonic distortion, etc, etc. Even if they do notice it and it's technically bad...they usually think it's "good" just because it sounds different. But in the end if they're happy it doesn't matter!! So I pick and choose when I chime in. I see this as a potential bad circumstance for the op that I'd like to help him avoid.
I just like to try and educate those who have questions. Your opinions are definitely welcome and thanks for chiming in! Hope I don't seem like too much of an ass D:
