Some people think that just because you have higher power rated speakers, you can turn the volume up higher. All it really does is distort and heat up the voice coils until they give in. This is also why stock speakers with a stock HU sound better than aftermarket speakers on a stock HU. They are power matched.

Ok, I read it like "too little power will blow your speaker." my mistake.

Thats how I would describe it.

    Nothing likes a clipped signal.

    Speakers or your ears.

Power matched doesnt help much if your sensitivity negates any increased thermal handling or the mechanical power handling isn't up to snuff.

No speaker has ever been blown by too little power. By being over driven, yes. But not by too little power.

Not true. This has been a debated forever. So, 6 years ago I tested the theory. I stuck a pair of Focal's on a Pioneer HU and a pair of Focal's on an identical Pioneer HU with a JL 300/4 amp. I let them run at the same decibel overnight. The next morning (12hrs later) The speakers with the amp were not working, and one of the speakers non amped, was not working. The amp overheated, but the speakers were fine. The non amped speaker blew the VC. I added cooling fans to the amp and ran the them again. 5 days later, continuously running, the amped speakers were still going and the last non amped speaker blew its VC. I always heard, "I dont need an amp because I wont turn it up to the point of distortion." Just because you cant hear the distortion doesnt mean its not occuring.

Haha! Had a buddy that would just raise the subwoofer level to extinguish the distortion. The car committed suicide by bursting its gas line onto the manifold....I woulda done the same.

all that proved is that distortion can kills speakers. Not that too little power kills speakers. Im not trying to come off as a jerk, really. Sorry if im coming off that way. Nice car btw, im on here trying to gather info for my sisters car (doing some mods for her), im a truck guy myself but im liking these cars more and more.

Possibly true, I didnt o-scope for distortion...I just set the non amped speakers to a level without audible distortion and matched the amped speakers to the same decibel. But distortion is a product of too little power. And you're not coming off like a jerk at all. I was just stating what I had observed. There's no doubt that you can run a 75w rms speaker @ 20w rms. My speakers run under their RMS all the time when Im at low volume, but..I have the power they require at higher volumes.

Nice! I loved that the z6's can either be coaxial or component, depending on how you want em.
