    Is it possible to hook and amp up to the factory head unit? I have a 99 gtp.

    it is possible.. you will need a piece called a rca reducer or something like that... it hooks up to ya rear speakers and forms a place to hook up your rca cables to ya amp.. other than that.. run ya remote wire to ya radio fuse in your fuse box and you good to go.. but save yaself the hassle and just get an aftermarket head unit..

    its actually called a rca convertor

    If i go with aftermarket head unit will the steering wheel controls still work?

    If you purchase the steering wheel controls harness it can. The higher end Alpine's and Pioneer's have head units that are wired for a line input from the steering wheel harness.

    The lower end stereo's require an IR transmitter to get the job done...but that's part of the harness. The IR's just don't work too well since they require line of sight with the head units IR receiver.
    11 is louder than 10!
