Depending on the speakers it may not be a downgrade. He is moving from factory speakers to a high quality coaxial set, which will completely blow the factories away.

Coaxial speakers do have some benefits, one is that high- and low-frequency sounds originate from the same point in space. This "point source" delivers the full range of sound frequencies in correct phase alignment, resulting in a smoother frequency response and improved clarity. This is a good thing considering most people who install a component set will mount the tweeters in generally poor locations, not taking into account speaker phasing and imaging.

I'm a super noob as far as audio equipment is concerned. Just wondering what all that coaxial stuff means? Can I just Plug and play into the wires that are already there?

Use the wires that are connected to the large speaker (woofer) to connect to your new speakers and just leave the factory tweeter wire unplugged. You will want to make sure that your new speakers are in phase with the other speakers in the car. If you get one speaker out of phase you will get a reduction in the systems bass output. There are several GP wire charts on the net just ind one and put + to + and -to -.

A coaxial speaker simple means the sound radiates from the same point, with the high frequency drivers mounted in front of the lower frequency driver
