I've got two '99 Gt's and they both have issues with the rear speakers. One one of them I can't get anything from the rear passenger speaker. I think it needs to be replaced, but should I check for loose wires?

The other car is trickier, the rear speakers sometimes work. They'll be fine for a few days and then nothing. A few more days and they work again. I'm don't even know where to start looking for the problem.

Wires would be a good first step. Hop in the trunk and have a look.

It's the speakers. My GTP had both rear speakers KAPUT when I got it.
I was able to test the system simply by plugging in a known good speaker in the rear one at a time, and it worked on both sides, so I knew it was the speakers that were bad. The factory speakers go out easy.

IMO in cases likely this usually what happened is one speaker blew out, and went unnoticed. And then the second one blew, hence no back end sound.

Yeah it's definitely blown in the first GP, the second bothers me though, It doesn't have the high end sound system, but the 6x9's aren't the same as the other car's. My first GP has a basic interior and radio, second one has Cd player and leather, did they put different rear speakers in that trim?
This is what I get for picking up a second one because it was a bargain.

As far as I know the only speaker upgrade comes with the Bose packages. And btw, are you really complaining about blown speakers on 12 year old cars?!? I certainly hope not, but if so welcome to the club. This place is full of ppl driving great reliable inexpensive cars and then moan about every little maintenance issue that comes up.

My dad's back left went out a few years after he got it. Mine were fine when I got mine about 8 months ago, but we replaced both cars, his VR3's and mine Pioneer. His is still on aftermarket H/U and it seems underpowered, but I dropped a cheap Dual 4ch on mine and the speakers sound amazing. Could there be a global issue with GP rear wiring perhaps?

If they are factory then they are junk. Had the same problem in my 00 gt. I has to do with the temp as far as when they work and when they dont. New speakers will solve the problem
