so, ive been driving a friends camaro and one thing i love about the car is the key... dont ask my why but flip keys are so damn cool... which got me thinking...

is there a way that i can adapt the key switch from a g8 to the grand prix so that i can use a G8 flip key?

    im thinking something like this...

08+ Pontiac G8 Switch Blade Key Fob Reciever + Tumbler: eBay Motors (item 190399346656 end time Jun-02-10 14:30:06 PDT)

is there any way i can make that work with my 99 grand prix gt?

i know it may seem stupid to some people but small details like that really make a difference.. i dont mind having to change all the key switches on my car (door locks and trunk) but if there is any way i can make it work i would like to do it.

so any ideas? anyone try this before?

    all help will be appreciated.

lol give it time and IMO its a nice idea i wouldn't be doing it just due to how it looks when actually in the car

I would imagine the chip in the key would be a problem, but just shooting from the hip.

i dont mind having to change the alarm in the car to a stock g8 one, also i dont mind having to have 2 keys.

at the moment i have a 99 gt so i dont thing there should be a problem with the chip.

i do have an account with my local dealership (for a body shop) so i dont have a problem getting the parts, but i would like to know is:

    1) is it possible
    2) Will it work
    3) How can i get it done

Anything will work if you go through all the steps needed to get it done. Is it gonna be cost effective? I doubt it, You would probably spend way the hell more money than you can imagine, and "for just a key"?? Some of those keys you are wanting to switch to are easily $100+ alone.

i wish i could say price is no issue, however it kinda is, ideally i would like to spend no more then 1k on this. seems outrageous for a key, but the price of a new viper alarm installed is going to be around 3-4 hundred.

i know this isnt a viper alarm, however there is no doubt that this alarm is better then what i have at the moment. ideally that would leave me with maybe 600..?

i dont think thats too much of a stretch for a key.

keep in mind, im probly going to be holding on to his car for quite some time. already looking at buying a whole new engine/trans and top swapping what is in there.

i guess my real question is... HOW can i make this work?

I wish I could tell you how you could do it, but I wouldn't know where to start. I would check with locksmiths that can re-key cars and go from there. The biggest problem you run into is computer chip matching that is now in most keys. But if you have deep pockets I am sure someone can do this for you.

    Good Luck
