Dash smoke

dose anybody know any thing about the P R N D 1 2 3 light goin bad on A GP i have a 98 GP GT and my dash started smoking like a small fire was goin on has i was driving I had stopped turned the car off and then back on and notice the little light that moves on the dash for ur gear was out and it was smoke comin from that area..now my car smell like a house fire...help with info please

Honestly the only thing that i would do is rip the dash apart and get behind the guages to see whats going on, although not having the yellow/orange slider to tell what gear your in isnt a big deal to some people, but thats what i would do first.
