Alright, I'm sure I'll come off as a dumb sh!t...but everything I've done so far has started off with me not knowing anything. So help me learn!

First off, I still have the factory radio in my 2000 Grand Prix. I was bored and went to Best Buy last night...found something that was decent for what I need.

Head unit is the Pioneer DEH-P5100UB. Anyone have thoughts on it? Good? Bad? Basically I just wanna be able to plug in my USB and listen to everything I've got. But I want it to still look nice with the car as well. Too bad it's not red lighting

Still haven't bought anything yet. But a quote from Best Buy racked up to around $500 altogether....

    $209 for the head unit
    $55 for install
    $25 for dash kit
    $15 for wire harness

And...the expensive part...since I still want my steering wheel controls:
    $110 in parts
    $60 install

And then plus tax on everything...

Now, I can buy everything I need for under $300 online. How hard would it be for me with no experience to install the complete set up. Especially the steering wheel controls.

ANYONE? Thanks for any help guys. Please be patient with me.

The most difficult part might be attaching the head unit's harness to the vehicle's wire harness. You can crimp or solder, either will work, but aside from removing the dashboard, thats about it. The things you've mentioned are really easy.

How about hooking up the steering wheel controls? Or is it worth it to get it done right for the $500?

Dont cut up the factory harness. Buy the adapter harness from zzp or who ever you want. If you have bose then you have to run a jumper wire from your remote turn on to the pink wire on the bose plug that would no longer be used.

If you can follow directions I think you could do it. Butt connectors and crimping would be fine for inside the car.

Second time in the past two days I've ****ed up on terminology. I meant the adapter harness.

the stereo install is probably the easiest thing to do in these cars, its color coded then plug it in and your done! most of it you can do in your house in about 5 minutes! I swapped mine out about 2 weeks ago and it only took 20 minutes at the most from beginning to end!

Buy it from crutchfield. Currently 209.99 and has free shipping.

They throw in the adapter plate, wiring harness, and instructions for free.

Pioneer DEH-P5100UB CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

Steeringwheel control interface is also available.
PAC SWI-PS Steering wheel control interface for Pioneer, Jensen, and Sony at Crutchfield.com

I cant use my steeringwheel controls, and learned to live without it, but can always add it later.

tempting to just get the head unit for now...but it'd just annoy me having these buttons at the tips of my thumbs and nothing comes of it. I get annoyed at those little details...
