yea it gets really hot.
Is it a new amp? If it is an older amp that was been abused or used with low ventilation, the thermal fault could be worn to wear it doesn't take much to trip it. Also check your ohm load compared to what the amp is stable at?
it a new amp just got it today. i did turn it down but then i cant hear the sub.and a guy i work with told me about the amp cause he has the same sub as i do (i sold the sub to him) and the amp works fine with his.
If it gets hot that fast, and shuts down before it kills itself <in like 10-30 seconds> gotta be an ohmage problem with the sub. Maybe the amp isn't 1 or 2 ohm stable, when your other one was. Could be an intermittent VC short in the sub, which is what bombed your old amp, and might eat this one, too.
What amp and what subs do you have? Ported or sealed boxes?
2 channel pioneer amp? is the ( + ) hooked up on the 1st channel and the ( - ) on the 2nd channel? yeah defently if it gets hot that fast, somethings not right. any smoke or funny smell??
its either too much gain and the speakers are just sucking the life out of the amp or the impediance ( ur ohms, or also the way its wired up )
Yeah, Im thinking the gain is too high or the ohms are too low, try turning the bass boost down if you havent already also.
Also try hooking it up not in bridged mode just to see if it still cuts off (it shouldnt cause you will only be using 1/2 the amp, but if it does, the amp most certainly has a problem!)
ok. i have turned the bass but ill try hooking it up in a different way.
GM-5400T
Output Power (4 Ohm, <=1% THD) 125 Watts x 2
Output Power (4 Ohm Bridged, <=1% THD) 380 Watts x 1
Output Power (2 Ohm, <=1% THD) 190 Watts x 2
Nice lil amp, but it is NOT 2 ohm stable in bridged mode. Most Type-R subs are Dual VC, or are 2 ohm..
Are you sure the amp is getting a 4 ohm load?
The Model # of the Alpine would help too![]()

Yes. If possible....
I missed this post of yours:
" it a new amp just got it today. i did turn it down but then i cant hear the sub.and a guy i work with told me about the amp cause he has the same sub as i do (i sold the sub to him) and the amp works fine with his."
If you are SURE the subs are exactly the same, and you bought the same model Pioneer as he did, something is broken.
Hook up the sub to one side of the amp, run it hard for a few minutes, then try the other side. That will test the amp and the sub, and verify that nothing is broken, and that you have a 2 ohm SVC sub.
Is there 2 sets of posts on the sub? red black and on the other side red black? If so it's Dual Voice Coil......
