you can keep the stock covers as long as you use 5 1/4 rounds i believe.

He is right you can keep them stock but I believe the speaker is a 6-1/2 or 1/4 well in the 04+ and it also depends on the size of the tweeter on the speaker because mines bulges out just a little like my cover has a knot in it.

i have an 08 and i just finished installing some 6 1/2 tonight. they were a perfect fit. i did a search on door removal and front speakers to find out how to take the doors off. if you're not sure what size came in your vehicle the safest bet is to go to crutchfield and input your year and model and it will tell you what fits without modification. if same as the 2008 you have 6 3/4 up front but aftermarket 6 1/2 fit and should have 6 x 9 in the rear. that's what i had with a basic factory set up no bose or monsoon.

i have a 2001 gtp and stuck some 6 1/2' s in there but the stock brackets wont fit them so i just uscrewed them and zip tied the speaker to the door and used some old insulating foam stuff i had laying around to dampen them from vibrating against the door its a little ghetto but with the door panel and the covers put back on you cant tell and it sounds great.

Rice, you can dremel out the stock brackets to fit the 6 1/2" speakers. I did that on my 03 without any issue. Zip tying those speakers in, you lose a lot of the speakers ability to produce a good clear sound cause those zip ties are not gonna hold up again any bass that might push them.

    Just some food for thought

i'm gonna have to give the dremel trick a try cause i've been looking to slap some 6.5"s in there. geddy you're talking about the actual mounting hole for the speaker right.

Yeah there is a black bracket that holds the speaker in place on the door panel. I simply took out the plate/bracket that held the factory 5" speaker and placed my 6 1/2 Memphis 2 Way D in there and marked off where it hit the plastic and used the grinder on the dremel to cut away the excess plastic. I had to use some different style screws to hold in the speaker, but it was locked in firmly so there was nothing lose between the bracket and the speaker.

    I hope that helps.

yeah ive been working on my sound system alot lately and I actually got a few of the screw holes to match up, but i still got the zip tyes on there haha but sounds even better my door doesnt rattle at all, but yeah that dremel tool trick would have been ideal but i thew away the brackets. oh well it sounds and looks fine.

I hear ya Rice, you can always goto a junk yard and dig some out of an old GP there. Or you can be creative and make your own MDF board mounting brackets. Either way, glad you like it
