does it really matter on having them facing in the cab or the trunk? i mean does it make a diff in SQ or bass? would having a sealed box or a ported box make a difference also in facing them?

This has been a debate for many many years. Heres my input, If you wanna do SQ a sealed box is the way to go. Not saying thats its impossible to use a vented box for SQ but sealed usually gives a more flat response VS a vented box where its tuned to a certain frequency. Really just depends what you want to do (i.e. compete, looks, enjoy clean bass inside, or knock the snot out of cows as you pass by) and what kinda music you like. As for placement if I remember correct placement doesn't matter 60hz and below. Its when the higher notes it becomes more of an issue. Anyways decide what your looking for then go from there.

i do spl comp so in my world box and placement is every thing in my Malibu i have a 3 db difference by facing the sub up but for sq facing the rear is often the best facing in the car will lower the bass and make a small difference with distortion ..... but its all about how u think it sounds the best if your not trying to do comps with it

i'm a music technology student right now...and in theory it shouldn't matter on a sub b/c sounds that low aren't directional. It has to do with the wavelength.

yes but it also has to do with air space when it comes to ported box's i if u take a ported box and put it facing back i the trunk of a car its like making a box in a box witch makes more pressure i face my 15 up if i put any thing other that my sub box and amps in the trunk (ex. pillows or a shoebox a bag)
there will be a very noticeable difference in the sound

my buddy and i built a custom ported box for my Rockford Fosgate 12. We faced the sub toward the rear end and had the port line up with the fold down compartment of the back seat. It definitely shakes anybody in the car and the windshield acts like a slight deflector thus in my opinion, maximizing bass sound heard within the car. Of course windows up or down, most people can hear me a good bit off. But it's like everybody else was saying, do you want competition sound or just enjoy the bass yourself...
