Hi guys, I tried to install this setup in my monte carlo and just totally gave up. Spent some time with customer service and just turned up nothing. Bought a new to me 2007 gt without the monsoon system and I refuse to give up until I can make the steering wheel controls work. Any help suggestions, write ups, or anything helpful to make this thing work for me??

Are you trying to manually program it or go for the automatic programming?

Iirc you hold volume up or keep tapping it for automatic programming.
Try pressing the reset button on the device with a paper clip while holding the volume up button at the same time.

I assume it's all wired correctly

I tried the automatic programming and that didn't work on the Grand Prix either. I guess I need to manually do it. Any advice??

I just followed the manual step by step to manually set each button on the steering wheel. I think it took a couple tries too

I tried to do that but when I hit volume up, nothing happened at all, the red light just keeps blinking.

Just want to double check the wiring.
Did you follow these directions as listed on axxess's site?
    http://www.metraonline.com/files/asw...1_INST_310.pdf

I'm sure you have the unit wired for power and ground correctly.
I just want to be sure the "Yellow/Green wire of the ASWC-1 to pin A7" is completed AND
"Connect A6 of the vehicles harness to a 12-volt accessory wire" Step was also completed.
I believe the A6 wire is purple. That just needs power for the buttons to even work properly and for the module to see them.

I just want to double check those wires because I've seen people skip that one step that supplies power to the buttons.

The problem with this unit is everything is done through the LED and steering wheel buttons as far as programming, A flashing red led doesn't tell me much as they normally blink in a sort of code.
The ASWC-1 Manual should cover the blinks in the trouble shooting section.

The best I can say now is triple check the wiring, try to reset the unit and see if the LED blinks according to the auto detect section of the manual.

When I did the manual "remapping" section I was able to get it working but I had to reset the module like 3 times before it finally got into the right "mode"

Thanks for the reply. Honestly I did not check to make sure the wires went to the appropriate pin, as this plugs into the harness I bought so there was no splicing into factory wiring. Just plugged it in and the stereo worked perfectly. IIRC when I tried it in my monte carlo I did check and the wiring was correct. I did reset it and tried the manual remapping with no success. I checked alpines site and I believe the stereo should accept the unit correctly. Has to be something else i'm not doing right here.

If you're sure the wiring is right and still can't reset it you can try seeing if replacing it with another unit would work. Or going with a different brand altogether
Or you can try a shop that installs stereos to see if they can get it working. Either an independent shop or some place like best buy, but they might try charging you for needless crap.

The wire harness I used is prewired for the aswc-1 so I can't imagine it's wired incorrectly. I will trace all the wires and double check. I suppose I could order another unit and return it if it does the same thing. Is that your suggestion? The website says its compatible with my stereo. So it should work. What are other people on this site using to retain factory steering wheel controls with an alpine deck? Not sure what other option there is besides the unit I'm using that's wired for it already.

I would imagine it's wired correctly also, but it's refusing to reprogram or reset when you try it so maybe it's something with the unit itself.
I understand they have an option to update the firmware via USB. But I'm not sure how to go about that

Updated the firmware today and spent about an hour combined with tech service on the phone. Cut into my factory wiring and still doesn't work. They won't replace the unit itself either. So now I have to buy a new unit and wiring and pray it works. Dissapointed

Good luck everyone seems to have issues with 04+cars.
