On these cars, when you do a cam swap you have to delete DOD which requires the removal of the cylinder heads to pull out the lifters. In order to reduce down-time when I do these packages, I supply a set of freshly cleaned, pressure checked and resurfaced 243 cylinder heads with new seals and BTR spring kit installed on a "core" basis.
I know how the DoD swap works and everything involved but I guess I didnt know that you offered another set of cleaned up heads when you do the swap. Makes it quicker on your end for sure.
I was just thinking in the back of my mind what heads could they or even what would they want to swap on there. The 243's are some of the best already. Though other heads could increase compression ratio or reduce it but that wouldnt be something worth doing when it already had good flowing heads.
Correct. We reuse 243 casting cores. Being that this was the only cylinder head available for the application, its not like I need to keep 10 different casting numbers on the shelf.
As far as cylinder heads go like you mentioned, the 243s are hands down the best performing OE cathedral ports available.
Keep this updated please. Every time you post you make me want to re-arrange my priorities. Any headway on the headers???
I'd be more curious on previous numbers vs. current ones than the cost.
I'd have an idea what goes into something like that...I wasn't a huge fan of the trans install that we did on my GXP recently. So many stupid clips everywhere, it's unreal.
Also, specs on the DoD delete cam the customer is running?
I will update the information with a video this weekend. Sorry guys...slammed getting everything together for the trip to LS Fest.
The 243's are the best STOCK cathedral port head, and by far not even remotely close to whats available out there today as far as performance. A set of CNC ported 243's are worth upwards of 30-40whp. TSP makes a great 5.3 head that would work great on the LS4's for very cheap fully assembled.
I'm surprised you guys don't visit the LS4 forum more often on ls1tech lol you guys are aware that you can run any LS cam in these cars once you do away with the DoD which is as simple as installing regular LS lifters and trays and a LS3 valley cover. Here's mine with a 214/220 cam. Furches im sure uses a slightly different spec for the turbo builds where as mine is built to run NA.
