    How did it take over an hour to jump it? It should take like 5 min to jump the deadest battery, do you know how to jump a vehicle?

    If it is parked between other vehicles and your cables are not long enough to reach alongside, push it forward or back and pull right up to it with the jumper.

    It is not much harder then changing batteries in a toy car!!

    Yes I know how to jump a vehicle. I connected the jumper cables like 50 different ways to the terminal. First off, the positive would barely stay on the positive terminal of my car. On top of that, my terminals are corroded and I had nothing to really clean them with at the time. I tried picking some off with a plastic piece in my car but it didn't do much good. And then if thats not enough, the jumper cables were $10 walmart ****, plus I have ring terminals that kind of get in the way. So ya, it's really not my fault that I couldn't get it started, it's never took me more than a few minutes in the past or with any other car, but I'm sure your jumper cable expertise would have came in handy.

    On the top of the fuse box is where you're supposed to place the positive cable if you're getting a boost.

    Negative goes to an unpainted body part.

    Neither end of the jumper cables should touch your battery when receiving a boost.

    All of that should be covered in the owners manual.

    As for the specific GXP coverage, it doesnt look much different at all to me. Minus the top post versus side post.

    Calling the guy a tool is a bit much.

    Bashing other members happens to be against the rules.

    I changed an alt. on a back road with literally no lights but my cellphone.. Not hard guy, if you are really have this many problems maybe you should sell the car and buy a huffy.

    You want a medal? i'm not having "this" many problems. i had one problem and i asked a question and I solved it with no thanks to you guys. Jesus, this has to be the least helpful board I've ever been to. I'm sorry I don't have a ton of experience with working on cars. I've done some minor things (mostly involving car audio) but that's it. I've changed a battery but I had trouble getting this one out and I'd think anyone with a GXP would probably understand my frustration. All I was asking was how to efficiently release the battery and i get flamed for that. Wow. Get a life guys.

    I think he wants a cookie and not a medal so here is a cookie for him . This experience was a bad one because the question was something so simple as to changing a battery in a car. Other questions wouldn't have had such negative comments but it't about changing a damn battery, come on man!

    Well look at that, the Batteries are in the EXACT SAME SPOT on all 3 sub models...

    This is to funny. How is this the most unhelpful board you have been on? There are guys on this forum that can rebuild a 3800 blind folded. There are guys on here that know just about every damn bolt size on these cars. I have gotten help on other cars than Grand Prix's on this board.

    I don't even mod my GP anymore but yet I still hang on this board because the Thunderbird forum is 90% people like you. So much infact that the long time members on TCCOA have made a video explaining it.

I dont really think it was that stupid of a question. I dont work on cars and never have so figuring out how to get stuff out and what not properly is tricky. You guys are talking **** for no reason. Im not trying to pick a fight or anything but its pretty clear most of this board is filled with elitists who think their car knowledge gives them some kind of superiority. I managed to get it out and replace thanks to a helpful poster elsewhere.

    I am sorry if you took this harshly but this is the web and you will always get unwanted comments. I guess I come from a culture that is built around do it yourself things (sister changes her own oil) and even my mom know how to change a battery.... no offense. But like you said we are jacks of different trades in different words of course.

    I'm not sure who you were trying to take a stab at with this post, no one on here thinks they are an "elitist" nor do most think they are superior on this forum. You were told on page 1 of your post how to do it and even told the exact socket size and the fact that you need an extension for the socket. You then disregarded that information and were looking for an alternate method instead of going to walmart to get a $10 socket set so you could do it right and be done with it. You could have even taken the suggestion of going to Autozone or a similiar store and having it installed for free and/or be sold the tools you need and instructed by someone on how to do it.

    To be honest, you started the bashing by saying "You don't know how to take this battery out, you don't even have a GXP". That was uncalled for, you don't know what other knowledge others may or may not have, for all you know he could be a mechanic. Most of us don't only know how to work on our own Grand Prixs.

    Try moving the fuse box and the diagonal brace...which is a 15mm IIRC...I don't have them so I can't recall. You'll need a 13mm for the battery tie down and possibly a 10mm for the fuse box nuts if you can't just unscrew them by hand.

    If I am thinking what you are talking about (diagonal on both sides) its a 13mm IIRC or at least on my car it is.

    This is what I had to do to get my battery out on the GXP. Take off the crossbrace and move the fusebox. You also have to stand the battery up and pull it straight out. Took me like 20 minutes to get it out because you pretty much need a second person to hold the fusebox out of the way. After 20 minutes and a bloody hand it came out. New battery took like a minute to install though. It also definitely helps if your battery has a plastic handle to carry it. The stock Delco one didn't.
