Intake, downpipe and a custom tune. None of that junk diablow tunes though or superchips plug in tunes, HP Tuners or nothing in my eyes.
LS6 intake manifold upgrade will help too.
By using a tuning software like HP Tuners to "tune" the computer. You or whoever would be making adjustments to the stock calibration in the computer to help gain horsepower/torque. They are very conservative from the factory to keep things safe and so anyone anytime anywhere in the world could hop in a drive it.
One could add more timing, adjust power enrichment settings and WOT fueling to help gain some power back and throttle feel. Transmission shift adjustments and knock retard changes ( they are pretty sensative from the factory). You'd want to be running 91+ fuel if did something like this to gain the most power possible and prevent spark knock.
Past that you'd need to install an aftermarket camshaft, maybe some headers and switch to E85 to get the most out of the engine NA.
I had an intake, downpipe, 3" exhaust...tuned on E85.
Car ran great; however most of the gains I noticed were from the built trans/gear I had in it.
Sure; if you build the trans.
You're not going to keep 500~ horse in a stock trans for very long at all.
And anyone that tells you that you can, is a damn liar.
The bottom end will hold the power no problem, it's plenty strong for 500+ horsepower. It's the rest of the parts like the stock valve train parts the fuel pump/injectors that won't hold up. The AFM/DoD cam and lifters won't like a lot of horsepower and are prone to failure even if you turn it off in the tune. The injectors are tiny and won't support boost at all, same with the fuel pump.
If you want some simple quick HP gains without diving deep into the engine then yeah those mods will do.
You can install an aftermarket cam and remove the AFM/DoD stuff and then make far more power but that is going to cost 3-4x the money.
the intake manifold on the LS4 is pretty restrictive and people swap to an LS1/2/6 or 5.3 truck manifolds. the LS6 manifold seems to flow the best and some people claim they get an additional 20 hp just from that swap. Overkill claims his tune will get about 10-15 hp, but I think you have to run 91 octane.
