Buy some 2008-2009?? Buick Allure front rotors, they are the same diameter has the GXP fronts without the drilled holes that love to rust. Those buicks came with the 5.3 engine too but no drilled rotors.
Pad type is up to you, I prefer the napa "adaptive ones" for good overall performance and really long pad life with zero dusting.
i just went with R1 concepts off ebay. eline series rotors with scorched pads. (they sell kits or front and or back, or both) front and back cost under 200 shipped and i swear to god, these are the best damn brakes ive ever owned. better then the brakes on a new car off the dealer lot.
a lot of us have bought pads for a 100 bucks that failed to live up to the price tag. these will blow your f ing mind if you dont get tossed through the windshield first lol
best part is, the rotors do not rust, not ever.
if you get the black ones maybe. i bought stock replacement for the rear and f body up front, f bodys listed for 120, rears were 80 ish, 10% off for buying two kits and it was 200 shipped.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brake-Rotors...item51e063ea82 bam! id buy these
I've never had a dustless pad
I was looking for the "best" or better than OE so I looked for better than OE quality rotors, those blanks they sell are of the same quality as a premium rotor from the parts store but with zinc coating.
The slotted non drilled front/rear combo with zinc coating I found was $375 through them, didn't see a ebay listing on them but I'm not digging for them.
He has his options that's for sure. The buick rotors with painted caps and coating are like 40-50 a rotor online, then add pads. R1's are an option or even powerstops are having a sale on rockauto for the buick fronts, they are just over $100 for fronts only with pads. I ran powerstops on my silverado and they held up good.
OE drilled rotors for the GXP are 60-70 each from AC delco before shipping on rock auto, I know for sure the parts store rotors cost way more than that. I'd stay away from the drilled rotors though.
I have the Powerstop drilled and slotted rotors and I am neutral on them. I've had the fronts for a little less than 2 years and they are thumping. The inner rotor surface has worn down to where the slots are barely there and the dust that gets trapped in them have kind of welded a ridge that makes the thumping when braking. However, I am rough on brakes. I bought the impala dual caliper, rotor and pad bundle through Rock auto. The calipers were red powder coated but the coating looks like crap. It's like they coated over rust. They were zinc coated and still have not rusted so that is good. I might look into the eline rotor/pad setup that Scottydogs mentioned.
I got the factory replacements from RockAuto.
They work just fine.
Drilled and slotted, too.
I been using hawk hps or the blue box
Not to hijack the thread, but why are people against drilled (and slotted?) rotors? I thought they were suppose to help keep the rotors cooler?
