    Hi all,
I have a gtp 3800 that will not start unless i lightly press the gas, if at any time i release the gas pedal, the car immediately dies. I changed the fuel filter, but no change. I also unplugged the MAP sensor to see if it would start, still nothing. I dont understand why it wont stay running when i release the gas. Any advice is appreciated.

Cleaned the throttle plate about 3 months ago. And one would think a vacuum leak of that size would be noticeable? Has duplicate codes that state MAF low/hi, but had those codes for months and drove fine, just bad mileage.

maf low voltage code? p0102 iirc? check the wires to the maf. if you see bare wore or cracks in the insulation the pig tail is bad and need to be replaced.

maf could be bad. cheap way is a junk yard maf or used off ebay.

or under the hood fuse box check # 21, the ing fuse. if thats blown theres your maf code.

the code always holds the key to your issue.

Will your car start and run with the MAF disconnected?

No, it will not start and run with maf unplugged, i barely have to touch the gas then it starts up, (with maf and/or map plugged in or not.) but as soon as i remove my foot is dies.

Does it stay running after it has warmed up? Does it just do this when you first start it?

hmmm sounds like a fuel delivery issue. I'm thinking fuel pressure regulator or the fuel pump

if you have a maf code, fix that.

why are you thinking of tossing parts at it when you have a maf code???????

its like you never read my post up there. get with it pal.

I plan on replacing both map and maf sensors tomorrow, just thought being its been throwing that code for months that it's not the likely culprit. I am going to a local you pull it parts yard,so hopefully i can find them. Are there any other model cars that use the same maf & map sensors?

a top the maf is a part #. the one you get needs to have the same part @ on it

they are the same in n/a cars as well as sc cars. anything with a 3800 same range of years as yours will work.

97-98 is one set of years. 99-00 01-03

HITACHI Part # MAF0005 is the actual OE part for the 97-98 years. IIRC it's $70 on rockauto

Mine is a 2000. Would maf be causing these symptoms? Or maybe my battery was weak before now and pump wasn't getting 12V and just finally kicked the bucket today?

maf can cause all this. when the cel comes on, scan and fix it always. never let it go like you did.

The car has alot more serious issues than this sensor, but whatever is keeping it from running has to be priority. It overheats when idel after engine warms up, and that's with no tstat. Also there is 0% water flow threw the heater core. No clue the issue there either but it got me to work and my kid school every day and i never let it get over halfway on the gauge . But i need her running at least lol
