Brand new battery - Duralast Gold I installed in the parking lot last night. Same thing happened though, ignition on and everything powers up, turn the key then one click and dead.

I just figured if I did the screwdriver trick, sparks but no motion from the starter then the starter is bad.

But if I do this, and no sparks / movement I would assume the starter isn't getting power from the battery so the Positive cable is bad. But, like you mentioned, just testing voltage at the starter will let me know if it's getting power or not.

So when you hit the starter everything goes dead? Does everything come back up on its own or are you getting out and wiggling the cables?

clean the terminals or make em tight. thats not right at all if you have to wiggle the wires to get the dash to light back up.

Everything is tight. That's why my first thought was the battery terminals. Just buy some new ones at Autozone.

I turn the key on, everything lights up. I try starting the car, and hear just one click then everything dies. I go out and wiggle the battery cables, and everything comes alive again. It's 100% the positive cable that's making a weak connection.

take the cable off and pull that rubber crap off and see if its corroded inside, or if the cable insulation is broken and showing bare wire where it meets the terminal.

I had this issue in the winter, the negative battery terminal was bad. I'd lose connection, have to wiggle the negative battery cable and regain power again, then the car would finally start.

This time is sorta the same deal, but no matter how many times I try, the car won't start.

Ill check that tomorrow. I'll be replacing the battery terminal anyways since it's cheap.

Yup bad connection for sure. My car has top terminals but my Park Ave and a friends Bonneville had side posts with 2 terminals on the Positive side. It's the worst design ever. Get your connection cleaned up and you'll be fine.

be funny if this bad terminal or cable is the cause of the KR.

(As far as getting it started again) I'm thinking more of my fountain of fuel after changing superchargers. Coincidence.... That and the fact that GM side posts suck. Not sure when they changed it but glad they did.

i see nothing wrong with side post batterys. ive had more problems with top post over the years, they seem to corrode more often then not. ( more air gets to the post is my thinking)

ive never had a corrosion issue on a side post. ( i know it happens tho)

I used to be the same way until a friend over tightened and stripped out the terminal in the battery. Made him hold it until I got the car started. The double stacked ones are horrible. I usually coat the terminal in dielectric grease or regular grease. I used to do a lot of 4x4 electrical systems and I slathered all the connections in dielectric. Those guys are nuts.

I'll be buying new terminal bolts and cleaning the terminal wires itself. Hopefully that's the fix.

Still having issues with the ridiculous amounts of cruise KR. Can't keep this up because it's killing my gas mileage with almost no timing. Averaging 14mpg.

    Replaced PCM - No change

Replaced Front KR Sensor (unplugged the rear) - No change

    I'm stumped again.

Keep in mind, my car is a '97 so you can't turn off the Knock Sensors under a certain RPM through DHP. You have to go through Tiny Tuner first.

i just replaced a stripped terminal bolt the other day. the goober that sold the battery to me also installed it and has been the only one that's touched those terminals. i should go demand he pay the 2.49 i paid for those bolts ...plus my 30 seconds of labor..

It is free. But we had some issues with teh CheckSum being right... I think we got it all figured out now. As soon as we get a chance I will just shut his knock sensors off under a certain RPM.
