A few weeks ago I finally got around to measuring the max lift on the exhaust side of the misfiring cyl after checking everything else.

Using the janky harbor frieght dial indicator and mount I managed to get one accurate reading.
Measuring at the rocker arm I got a reading of .240 max lift.

I did not get a chance to compare these results with the lift from another valve because I was getting pretty fed up with the indicator mount.

So that being said, I think I can confirm the wiped cam lobe theory.

Now its time to look into which cam to buy. I want to go with something that'll be easy on the valve train, nothing too aggressive for the dd.

At first I was looking into the NIC because of that gnarly lope and its potential without an intercooler. But after reading about the mpg losses and the fact that the XP is pretty much a better cam in everyway, I started looking into other options.

I want something thats focused on mid range power and doesn't need too rev to the moon for the cam to shine. This way I can keep lighter# valve springs on it to make it easier on the valve train.

    I came across this :
    Overkill SBC2 camshaft, 3326/3307 HR116+2 grind number, its a 214/224 cam, 116LSA, 114ICL, .507/.507 lift @ 1.6 rocker ratio.

Reading on more about what Will said about this cam, it sounds perfect.

I can keep my 90# l76 springs and retainers
    Ditch the 1.9RR
And get a new stock chain and dampener.

    Any thoughts guys?

I think I'm leaning towards something a little more mild. Thanks though!

You also have to get a different set of lifters to use that cam.. Coolone is doing a build with one I believe. I do have a used XP cam if you end up going that route also.

The Rhodes Lifters work with the BBC and yes, I have it, engine is put together, just waiting for time off from work to swap it into my car the suspense is killing me to get it all together.

the SBC cam doesn't require the Rhodes Lifters and stock is fine. As you've mentioned the stock chain and 76' springs are good too. Just do the seals while you have everything apart too as it easy while in there.

I would want more than .507 lift, but that's just me (using 1.8 YT RR's on Overkill's BBC, lol)
Overkill BBC Cam, YT 1.8 RR's, Rhodes Lifters, STGII Heads, GenV, Pacesetters, 3" Exh to Tips, TEP Trans. N*, ID 75# injectors/E85 coming soon

.507 Lift is pretty small, I'd say.

If I was ever going to cam, I'd go bigger than that.

.240 is basically stock lift. Doing it without oil pressure is impossible anyway.

If you ground .050 off a cam lobe the lifter will probably pick the slack up and your motor would make horrible noises

lol, more mild than an S1X or an XP?

I'd just not cam it then.

They aren't aggressive at all; especially if you have the idle speed set around 900~. Would idle just as smooth as a VS, which sounds like a misfiring 3800 anyways, not a cammed car.

To be honest, Ive never been in a cammed 3800 so I really dont know whats what as far how aggressive each cam is.

    its .240 at a 1.9 rocker ratio.

This sounds like a good idea.

It needs a new cam. No way in hell I'm replacing it with another stock one.

S1X looks like it might be a good choice.
