i wasnt around here in 09' lool
Good luck man, looks like your doing it right.Getting one of these to last can be done, just gotta take the necessary steps.
Any consideration to opening up some of the oil passages? I remember reading a while ago it was an issue. Not many would strip down a 3800 block and do what you are. So have you considered going all out and doing this as well?
Awesome build by the way : )
coolone, been searching this forum for a common cause of rod bearing failure. Uno99 found on his engine rod bolt(s) stretch. GTP' with only a low oil pressure light might have been running with low pressure due to worn bearings, oil pump housing, poor maintenance... ect.
I looked for the cause of failure on this motor. Oil pump housing scored, did it happen after the rod bearing failed? Camshaft and balance shaft bearing worn. The previous owner of the car was just driving down the freeway. Total mileage on engine 100k.
Going all out on the lubrication system? Installed a higher pressure relief valve, new timing cover / oil pump housing, new oil pump assembly, new oil pickup, deburred the oil filter housing internal passageway, check all the bearing clearances.
When this engine is started for the first time, hoping for excessive oil pressure.
This is the real deal holyfield, right here! No playing around. Great pics and definitely awesome.
Original cylinders cracked between valve seats. Pulled a second pair from PnP, disassembled and cleaned. First head... Good. Checking the second head... last camber magnuflex... Cracked...

Cracked heads are very common in the 3800 world. One local went through 8 sets to get one good pair.
You have some serious machines where you are at. That's what I call the REAL DEAL!
In between these two port the casting comes to a peak. Dave from cylinder heads unlimited is thinking theses peaks are causing metal to over heat and crack. GM hardens the seat area, Dave has bored the seats area and remagnufluxed. The cracks continued below the boring. Pressuring testing has turned up one cylinder leaking into the cooling jacket.
he suggests grinding the peaks on a good head.
nice. i didn't have the patience to do all that stuff when I replaced my bearings. Actually I had no idea you were supposed to do all this other machine work. I just tossed it all in and let it rip
.
Cylinder heads sorted out. Ready to assemble the heads.

Bee hive style valve springs.

That is some tight work there. T.L.C....
Do mine next?
Rear header installed. Getting ready to install.
Speed Daddy rear header installed, removed front the front header ... need more room to squeeze this thing in.
