Ordered my Speed Daddy's yesterday. Gonna order my pulley this morning (3.4) and then get a mail order tune. A friend of mine that knows a lot about these cars says Overkill seems to be the way to go. Just want some of your guys opinions. I'm new to the GTP world. Just want to make sure I do everything right the 1st time if possible. Also, with a mail order tune do you have to email them things you want done? Like top speed limiter removed, increased line pressure etc.?

Just headers may/may not allow you to drop to a 3.4 pulley bud. You should probably invest in some 1.9 rockers and valve springs before the pulley goes on.

Depending on the car the 3.4 might be a bit much, as mentioned above. I have an Overkill tune, albeit on an NA car but I love it. Never heard any bad things about Overkill tunes, so I would buy with confidence.

However, I should note... Where are you located? Might be able to get a member give you a proper in-car tune, geared towards your specific car.

I'm in North Alabama. There's a shop in my area that does dyno tuning. I asked on here if I should do a mail order tune or a dyno tune. Most seemed to think a mail order would be better. So hell, I guess it's still up in the air. I was planning on getting some 1.9's in the near future after the colder plugs, thermostat, pulley and tune. Scanned it 2 or 3 times with the Torquer Pro app. KR peaked at 2.1 Car is a 2000 GTP with 108k miles. I tried to add in my cars description in my sig but it said I don't have authorization to do so.

If you already have a peak of 2.1 with headers (not sure if you installed them yet) a 3.4 will double that number.

A tune might not take that away, just so you know. But I guess you'll have to see if it goes away when you install them, if you havent yet.

Considering the OP says he ordered them yesterday, I'd say they are not installed yet... haha.

Headers may or may not allow that much of a pulley drop as others have said, just make sure you scan with it after the header install.

So with headers, colder plugs, thermostat, air intake, and a tune you guys are telling me a 3.4 may be too much? Well that just sucks. And no the headers arent installed yet.

It may or may not be. Every car is different. Only way to know is to try it and scan. If you still have ANY KR I would recomend going up to a bigger pulley.

I have an 04 comp g and put almost the same setup you're trying to do on early last month. SD headers, intake, colder plugs (2 stage), 180*t Stat and I got an overkill tune. Before I dropped pulleys I had no knock whatsoever for over two weeks. I monitored it almost everyday and it never had more than one or two instances and never more than .03. I put an intense mps on Oct 1st with a 3.5 pulley. Since then monitoring every time I go anywhere over a five minute trip, I'm seeing up to 2.5 degrees sometimes. Mostly less than one degree but occasionally over 2. You will still probably have knock on a Gen 3 at a 3.4 pulley with that setup. Maybe a dyno tune could get rid of more, but its a crapshoot. But, IMHO if its less than stock, I'm rolling with it. If it Blows, get another. That's my plan.

Whats the average KR on these cars when they're stock? I've read on here the average is usually 5-7 degrees
2000 GTP coupe. Wizaired intake. 3.4 pulley, Overkill tune, and Speed Daddy's waiting to be put on.

Yeah average is anywhere from 2-10 depending on maintenance, heat etc.. Anything over 2* on less than a 3.8 pulley would have me concerned. But maybe thats because I just chipped a piston. on a 3.4/3.6 setup.

Meh. I kinda agree and disagree...

It wont make your car much if any faster. BUT a tune can make it safer. Even if the pulley is too small you can take timing away/add fuel and kill off most if not all the KR. Not that the car is then tuned to be at peak performance but you CAN make the tune take care of the KR.
