Why not run the trans you have till you blow it up. Gives you time to save up for other stuff unless you implode it same day, plus with the money you saved you can get headers and then save the money you would spend on rockers on a cam. But if you just want a little more power I would just run a 4.0 pully and headers and see if it knocks. That should be about equal to a stock GTP shouldnt it people who know way more than me.

    02 GT "Slowkar" 180k - Top Swap, Gen V, TOG Headers, 1.9s, e85, 3.25. It's literally the slowest e85 car ever....

The OP has inspired me to become a certified mechanic as well.

Can anyone recommend a good online course?

Maybe University of Phoenix has something?

    This job books 10 hours.

    Rockers aren't worth the money.

The best value is a used LE 180 MIG and some practice. Then buy a small Holset. You don't have to run a lot of boost to have fun.

If you're set on top swap, don't let it knock.

HD trans isn't any better. The only real difference is a slightly stronger diff, but again, the non HD diff will be fine. Unless you one wheel peel, then no stock diff will ever survive that. Most cheap used transmissions are likely in similar condition to what is presently in your vehicle.
