Fuel issue

So I just did my 1.9 RR upgrade and PLOG, crossover and rear PEM last week. After getting everything back together the car runs amazingly well now and finally 0 KR through first and second with a spike of 1-2* KR on downshifts for about a second. The problem I'm having now is after the car has set turned off for about 30 minutes or longer and I try to start it, it doesn't want to fire up on the first attempt but will on the second. If I turn the key to "on" position and let the fuel pump prime it will fire right up. I guess I'm losing fuel pressure somewhere. Any ideas? I've tried spraying carb cleaner all around fuel lines under the hood while running and can't find any leaks.

Maybe the regulator is going bad.

Sounds like a regulator. Put a fuel pressure gauge on and see if it's holding pressure.

Well now the car will not start at all. I thought maybe fuel pump resistor and tried bending the tab on the relay and the car would run really rough for about two minutes then die and not start up again at all. Changing the relay pin back and reinserting it made the car start and run normally until I got on the road and tried to return home. Ran fine for about a minute up the road then completely died and now will not start again regardless of the fuel pump resistor relay tab being bent or not. With the relay in it's normal "position" meaning no tabs bent the pump comes on every time the key is turned on for about 3 seconds then stops.

I ordered the fuel pump resistor off line and it should hopefully be here tomorrow. Any other ideas to try? I need to find a way to at least get the car back to the house so I can do something with it and out of the church parking lot where it made it to.

Swapped out fuel pump resistor with a new style version and it fixed the problem. Also seems to start up right away every time as well now. Just in case anyone else is having this issue.

Well the losing pressure problem is back. Anytime the car sits for more than about an hour when I go to start the car it will not start the first attempt but just turn over. After I release the switch and try again it starts right up. If I let the fuel pump prime first it will start up but it still takes about 2 seconds to start. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge to attached to the rail. Any other way to check it to see if it's the fuel pressure regulator? I would hate to spend $60 on the part if that's not it. Any help here would be great.

Grab a fuel pressure gauge from harbor freight for $20 or just go to the parts store and put down essentially a deposit for the cost of the tool and then you get your money back when you return it

It's a 2000 GTP. No Harbor Freight around, so I guess I'll have to hit up Autozone and see if they have one. What is fuel pressure suppose to be at constantly on the rail? 52-54 psi? Also if it is bleeding pressure off is the fuel pressure regulator the only thing that would cause it?

you want to see over 42 psi. key to on, and running.

anything under 40 is a problem.


parts store should also sell the pressure gauge for around 20 if you want to own it.
