Ready for a paragraph? Ok here we go....
I have a 1999 gtp. On the way home from work the other day I noticed my ses flashing then it stayed on. I continued driving home. Started the car next morning it ran fine, light was still on I decided to drive it to work anyways. Half way to work the ses light turned off, and car seemed to be running fine. On my way back home from work the light popped on again. I got the car home and decided to see what would make the light flash. Turns out to be misfiring. After a few horror stories I read I decided to call up my mechanic buddy. He brought over the scanner hooked it up and we came up with a p0300. After we dug into it a little further we found cylinder 1 and 4 were the two misfiring. As we looked in the engine compartment we found that one of the coilpack was for the 1&4 cylinder, we were sure we found it. We went to pick and pull and picked up a coil pack and the module just in case. When we got back, we swapped the packs. Same thing... So we swapped around the other cool packs to see if the misfire changed cylinders, it didn't. Put the module in, didn't fix it either. So we put in some new plugs. Still misfiring... checked for vacuum leaks, couldn't find any. Figured my catalytic converter had been on its way out, by the rattling sound in my exhaust. Went to muffler shop, had it cut out and a test pipe installed with a deFowler in the rear o2 bung. Still the p0300 is there. Bring the car back to the house to scan. Still there, wtf... So we try a crank angle sensor relearn, and no more misfiring. I think it's fixed. Drive the car a bit, get on it a little and it feels good, faster, smoother, just better over all. Now the code returned. I'm thinking next step is change out the crank angle sensor. Any input guys? I'm feeling pretty damn frusterated.
