I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion on how to quiet a sqeeky and sometimes sqealing supercharger belt on a 2002 Grand Prix GTP. I bought this car recently and the belt was making noise when i got it. Changed the belt and everything was fine for about a week and now the the noise is back. Have sprayed belt dressing several times but it only helps for a short time. The supercharger does have an aftermarket pulley on it and I was thinking that maybe this could be the problem. Has anyone had a problem with this type of pulley upgrade?

If the pulley is smaller you need a smaller belt

Not only that, but does this GTP have a way to be scanned for KR? Supporting mods for pulley drop? I hope that if it's a smaller pulley that you have the mods to go with it or you could be looking for a new motor in the near future.

Oh, and in case you don't know (we can't assume everyone does), make sure to run at least 91 octane in it, 93 if you can get it. GTP's require premium fuel.

I don't know if the pulley is smaller than stock. What does a stock one measure? I also have no idea if any other mods have been done to the engine. I do run 91 octane gas and have not noticed any pinging.

you can run a stock belt down to a 3.6

.....some ppl replace the belt and tensioner at the same time to avoid any future problems....I would take the belt off and spin pulleys, make sure everything is ok first....

If the belt was replaced with one that is too small it will start squeaking soon after replaced.

I have a stock belt on my 3.4 pulley and it works fine, not saying its the right thing to do but it can be done.

Check and make sure the belt is all the way on at the crank pulley, sometimes they jump off a rib or 2 and they squeak happened to me before. And also try and take your belt off and check all your pulleys to see it they spin nice could be a bad idler pulley.

Will check to see if belt has moved over a rib or two. Never thought of that.

No I mean too small. Parts store gave me a belt a half inch too short once. It was terrible trying to get it on, about a week later it started squeaking.

Checked pulley and it is a 3.3...the brand is American Supercharger and I don't know anything about them except they are a modular system sold on eBay...ordered a new belt that is 1 inch shorter than stock and will see if that helps.

I woulda got a stock pulley aswell, not such a good idea to have a 3.3 pulley without knowing if you even have the mods to run it.

In for chipped pistons. By exhaust are we talking just different mufflers? Check the downpipe or check for aftermarket headers atleast.

Yup u might want to pick up a stock pulley. If the engine isn't already messed up it won't be to long until it is. I doubt the car has the proper mods to run a 3.3 safely even with some exhaust work it takes more then that.

That still doesn't equal you being able to run a 3.3 safely.

I hate to be a negative Nancy and I'm no Cleo but I do see a piston or pistons going KABOOM in the very near future if it hasn't already.
