Re: New GTP problems.
Talked to the guy today, he's not sure on how many miles are on it, but he's gonna look for a oil change sticker. If he can't find the sticker then he'll give me the VIN and I'll run it to find out the mileage. The soonest I can get it will be next weekend, so hopefully he'll hold it for me.

Re: New GTP problems.
you can always make it crank over by jumping the starter motor, that way you know its not locked up. not sure how you could hot wire the spark and fuel tho, newer car suck for that. the old days real easy.
check the oil, smell it, feel it. pull the plugs look at them too. if you jump the starter, you could do a compression test on it too. if they all match thats a good sign.

Re: New GTP problems.
I just talked to the guy, last oil change was at 218,000. Now I'm stuck wondering if I should buy the engine and transmission for $450, or save and pay twice that ($900) for a 136,000 mile engine. He said I could run a compression check as well. It's a 2 hour drive so if I go, I hope it'll pass the compression check.

Re: New GTP problems.
thats a lot of miles, id think about passing on that one. keep looking, and calling yards. they will get 900, and more, depends on whos selling it. look for a car thats rear ended. best bet.

Re: New GTP problems.
It's a 2 hour drive from me, but i think it's at least worth the drive to check it out. Who knows, maybe it's been rebuilt already. A compression check will tell me for sure, and I'll spin the motor over by hand to try and feel any knocks. I bought this car because my wife is Prego again (already have 1 kid) and 4 of us wont fit in the truck. She's due on July 19 so I wanna have the car going with all the stupid little kinks worked out by a month or 2 before then.

Re: New GTP problems.
So I decided to skip onthe $350 218,000 mile engine, and I've been looking elsewhere. I found 2 more, a 120K for $750 (2 hours away) and a 154k for $700 (1 hour away and might deliver for free). Obviously I'm hoping for the 120k, but who knows what I'll end up with. I've been spending time making a list of things I want to replace on the engine before it goes in (regardless of the engine I get). I left the intake gaskets off the list since I already have those. Here's the list:
....................Oreilly Rock Auto
Oil Pump Kit - $56.99 $41.79
Water Pump - $42.99 $18.09
Timing Chain - $47.99 $40.79
Oil Pan Gasket - $51.99 $27.99
Rear Main Seal - $15.99 $9.18
Timing Cover - $14.99 $11.97
Valve Cover - $61.99 $36.79
Exhaust Manifold $7.99 $4.80
Timing Dampener $19.99 $14.73
............Shipping $00.00 $12.96
............Total $320.91 $219.09
My question is, should I mess with the oil pump at all? I don't see any oil pumps on Oreilly's website, just rebuild kits. Anyone have any input on this? Should I just leave the oil pump alone? I'm going to pull my lifters, push rods, and rockers out of my old motor and clean them up really well, if they are in good enough shape I'll use them in the new motor. If they aren't in good shape, then I'll pull the ones out of the new motor and clean them up as well.
