First off yes im new, more of a forum reader than poster. But today on my way home from work i went to start my car and all my lights turned off than the engine started and they all came back on. (this is not a usual thing). But i really didn't think nothing of it because iv'e known i don't have the greatest battery. So i get home and notice that my engine is making this horrible knocking/scraping sound. I'm not sure what it is thats making the noise either the S/C or the engine. I have already lost one engine in this car due to the intake manifold gasket going out and the car over heated and blew a rod. and i really dont know what im going to do if i have another bad engine. any idea's are helpfull.

Remove the supercharger belt. See if noise continues

    Edit

a 15mm socket on the tensioner pulley relieves tension off the belt. Pull towards you to release tension off the belt.

Can you upload a video? If the noise is gone when you pull that belt off its your coupler. If not your gonna have to really try to pin point area and then try the stethascope method. Long screw driver place the plastc handle part to your ear, watch where your poking around though.

Most usually a bad idler-pulley bearing, though you could have a bad alternator. When the idler pulleys die the plastic wheel falls off and so does the belt on pretty short order after the noise events.

UPDATE: Started my car today, The horrible screeching noise is gone. but i can hear my supercharger sounding like a machine gun. i know that's the coupler i have a spare but getting a hold of supercharger oil is pretty hard around here. i did notice while the car was running that it smelled like one of the belts was burning. but i didnt see any of the pulleys stopping or the belt slipping on
    any of them.

Second Update: something in the motor is knocking. i used the screwdriver method as suggested to find where the noise is coming from. the knocking is real noticeable in park and while in gear the noise changes. the knocking sound almost sounds like its comming from the flywheel area.

Could be a cracked flexplate. Search here and youtube for cracked flexplate and see what comes up. It happens.

Well if it had been just the supercharger belt's idler the plastic rim of it would have melted off it's seized bearing and shot out somewhere and the belt would have just fell off. If the belts are still on and all the pulleys are still spinning there may still be a good chance it's not the supercharger.

Take Bluemagic's advice and first remove the supercharger belt - the engine will still run just fine without it. If the noise persists suspect the alternator or power steering or AC pumps - superchargers do not imitate machine guns, they usually first howl or intermittently groan like banshees and/or just eventually seize up in death mode.

The only way a SC could lock, burn belts and then rattle would be if something metal got sucked into it.

Well guys it still ended up being the main bearings. although the knocking noise was very faint. the motor did end up seizing on me the other day. and now i have a 3,400lb of metal sitting infront of my house. i dont have the money to fix it so im going to try to part it out. (the scrap yard only offered $170) lol. it has alot of aftermarket things on it. maybe i can get like $400. oh and i do appreciate the help everyone.

Alot of yards pull decent motors out and sell them cheap. You would probably get a use complete motor for $500-$750 if you looked around. Would beat parting it out for a couple hundred and still not have a car.

Sorry for the bad luck, been there replaced that.

Oh i didnt mention this. i got scammed when i bought the car by a salvage yard that also sells used cars. they had legitimate certificates and everything. but when i bought the car it turns out they title jumped me and they claimed "they were just selling it for a friend on the car lot" well anyways 2 days after having the car the engine blew a rod. i took it to them and they said used cars are sold as is and it sucks to be me. but out of the "kindness of their hearts" - sarcasm, they put in another engine for $400. when the time came to pay for it. they would only accept cash for it, even though the store accepts credit. i argued but came to the realization that they have my car and there's nothing i can do. so i used the rest of my bank account to get the car back. i get the car home eat lunch go to register the car at the S.O.S and the dang car wouldn't start. something happened to the alternator when he swapped the engines and he put a bad one on the car. 1 tow and $150 later the car was running. so the car actually runs for about a week. The fuel pump goes out. fix that. 4 days later the car starts acting funny, thats where this post came from. go to get the recipt after the motors seizes. all the ink is gone off the receipt go figure. so now im here 19 years old working 2 jobs no transportation to either it's freezing outside. and i dont even have enough $ to get a downpayment on a car. and i have a 3,000 pile of metal sitting infront of my house.
