Hey there fellow pontiac friends, I have a 98 grand prix gtp with about 185k on it, about a week and a half ago I was driving in my car and all of the sudden this violent shake started to happen whenever I would accelerate, but as soon as I took my foot off the petal, it stopped. I took it to a shop because I didn't want to deal with it, they said it was the bent wheel (which I've had for a year and a half, all it does is make a slight vibration around 50mph or so). I told them that what I felt was NOT the wheel, because it was only when I accelerated, but they insisted it was the wheel. So I took my car back, when to O'Riley's, the guy looked at it for 2-3 mins, and said it was the motor mounts. This sounded 100% understandable to me, so I went to work on it, replaced the two top motor mounts and both bottom motor mounts. The bottom ones the rubber was torn to bits, the top ones (not the motor mounts but the brackets that connect them to above the radiator) the rubber wasn't in pieces like the others, but they were crazy loose and movable. Replacing all those helped a TON. But after driving it around a bit, I don't get near as violent of a shake, but I still have a pretty big shake, and it was the same as before as well. Perhaps it is the bent wheel? But how come its only when I accelerate, and how would the bent wheel for no reason get 1000 times worse without doing anything to damage it more? Any other suggestions I can do? I'm determined not to buy a new car right now, but I don't want to spend a ton...
