Thread: In search for header info...

I have looked through threads and have not really found what im looking for, even int he write ups on headers. I bought a top swapped GT, and it had headers on it when I bought it...the guy I bought it off of said they were "ebay" headers but that was it...didn't say if it was a set sold by someone, or one of the cheap companies...so I figured speed daddys since thats the most popular picked up by GTP guys on a budget build...but, upon further inspection, they are not polished stainless, like the speed daddys...theyre more of a flat silver color, also not Vband like the speed daddys, they bolt in just like the factory manifolds would....and, the downpipe is a catless downpipe that bolts to the rear header, and bolts to the resonator...there is a piece of flex pipe around the area when it starts to straighten after coming off the rear header...which I assume this would be a ZZP downpipe and not what came with the set of headers?

They look (In pics) Closest to the SLPs....but not sure...does anyone know a way to tell? Just wanting to see if I need to upgrade to something a bit better, or if these are going to be of some quality and not leak like crazy down the road. any help would be appreciated. Can get pics if needed. Thanks.

Got a few pics...sorry theyre crappy cell phone pics...but I tried the best I could. Also, I just bought this car...so its a bit of a mess right now lol. Looks like they exhuast clamped the 2 pipes into the Y pipe...never noticed that till today....

Now that I looked at the header thread pics...they look closest to those or OBX...I really hope theyre not OBX...lol. Im assuming either way, someone painted them maybe, since neither come in that sort of finish it doesnt look like. I am currently debating on what to do as far as the Y pipe having the rear header and crossover pipes clamped into them....what do you guys recommend to seal that better? Or do you think the clamps will be ok? (Didnt even see a clamp on the rear header into the downpipe, but crossover was clamped.)

I thought about Welding them both on, and doing the install of the rear header with the crossover as well...basically make the Y pipe, rear header, and crossover all one piece...but I could see that being terrible to get in, and a nightmare if I ever needed to get them back out...lol.


May consider going to different headers. Not too sure yet. I guess I could Vband that area, couldn't I? Never used or had experience with V bands, so that would be a new area for me as far as how it would work..

Might be a stupid question, but...slip bit? Im guessing just an exhaust coupler from an auto parts store, slightly bigger than the header pipes to slip over each, and clamp? Im guessing your talking a Vband clamp, or?? Haven't ever done a whole lot of exhaust work lol

Wish there would be a way to tell if they're really pacesetters or OBX...if they're OBX they will be gone and new headers put in...but if theyre pacesetters, ill keep running them.

They are already a slip fit design to them...one tube fits in the other, like the SLPs....if that's what your referring to on slip fit? Lol. Or are you saying there is another pipe, or? Confused on that part....I searched a bit before replying...I see most people saying they just use a crapload of copper RTV and a band clamp on all the joints...and on the front header to crossover copper RTV the crap out of the donut gasket and bolt together....hope im on the right track?

As far as figuring out if theyre OBX or pacesetter...i wish there was a way...they have the same collector size and primary size...so thats out for figuring it out I guess...any other ideas?

Hmm...I dont know...just wish I could find out for sure...im about to just swap them out anyway just to know whats in there...Although, I havent had any problems with them yet, except them leaking from crossover to front header, but there is no gasket there currently, so, that will be an easy to fix thing, probably. Then I imagine my next point of leaking will be the Y pipe area.

Also curious...when you sad a 1" band clamp, im assuming your talking about the height I guess you would say, considering the pipes needing to be sealed up are 2.5" diameter..

I'd consider a slip fit and 1" band clamps like SLP's have and like we suggest with Speed Daddy's. you can weld the rear, but don't do the crossover. The only way you'd get them in/out would be to pull the engine.
