Thread: spark plugs for minor mods

I was just thinking today. This weekend I'm installing the following:

Wizair, overkill PCM, TB spacer and heat shield. I already have the 180thermo and 3" downpipe installed.

My cars got 37k miles on it and its 4 years old, which isnt bad but its OEM plugs in there. Plus with the new added power I think it would be a good idea to put fresh plugs in there.

I dont really want to put autolites in there just because they are cheap (even if they are good) but then again next spring/summer I will be dropping to a 3.5 pulley and getting a powerlog which then I will get the NGK TR6ix, so maybe I should go with the autolites since the plugs are only going to be in there for 10-12k miles.

Which plugs should I go with for my mods? Autolite 605's? Or just go with the stock AC Delcos gapped at something different? I will get new OEM wires as well. Thanks.

autolite's worked great for me, i got the iridium 104's, by no means cheap, but they have held up good.

get a p-log and you might be ready for a 3.5 scan first tho.. a really good investment is the aero force gauge. it reads alot of hand paramiters.

Yea I just bought an Autotap off of smoking2000gtp. Will be scanning this weekend before and after the intake and PCM. Def. will be getting a plog before I drop to the 3.5. Arent 104's 1 heat range colder than stock? Can I handle a heat range colder with intake,pcm and dp?

yea I think I am good on knocking down one heat range. Overkill's spark plug guide is nice.

104's are 2 heat ranges coleder than stock, autolite 605's are 1 heat range colder than stock.

ahh thanks for posting that. I always thought wrong then. I will go with the 605's and stock wires.

i dont have any problems running 104's but since you can scan. run the 605's and see how they do, if not good enough then you can try the 104's

You'll be fine with either 104's or 605's, but if I were you I would go 605's since you're still running the stock pulley.

How about the AC delco 41-932. They are copper like the autolites and 1 heat range colder.

Not supercharged, but AL605s have been doing great in my car so far.

Well I haven't heard any personal experiences with those plugs, but I'd imagine that they would be fine. Personally I prefer Autolites because they perform very well in my car and they are cheap also, but to each his own.

yeah, the ac delco plugs would work fine too. copper core spark plugs dont last as long as iridium or platinum ones, but theyre cheapers, and they pull more heat away from the cylinder. i see that as a fair trade off.

Well I will go with the 605's this weekend. What should I gap them at? Again my car will have: intake,pcm,3"dp on it. Thanks.

A gap of .055 will be fine.
