    Hi
I just bought a 97 gtp and is has a studder/flutter in power under acceleration,, it doesnt do it while in park and reved up. I also does NOT have the ses light on. Some times is really bad sometimes its gone or very little. Everyone i see with this issue,, but never finds the problem or doesnt post what it was.... and everyone just tells them to throw parts at it. Anyone actually fix this issue before? thankx
    This is what i know:
-new plugs and wires from last owner
-no mods that i know of,,, except i was told it was chipped/programmed,, and it doesnt seem to shut off going hi speeds?
-new air filter from last owner
-no other known problems at all

Could be a fuel filter...could be a coil pack, could be the ICM, or a bad wire...bad o2 sensor...we throw parts out because those are the things they might be. My bet however, is a vacuum leak...check all the rubber "T" fittings around the blower/LIM/fuel rail area. They suffer from dry rot on these cars. There is also one on the TB to the EVAP canister on the back of the blower. Check that first. Cheap and easy fix...as you can buy the entire set from the dealership...for less than $30. Since it's a '97...it has the odd vacuum tree on the right side of the blower...could be rotted out there too...or you Boost Bypass Valve could be bad. See what I mean...just gotta try things to fix it. I say again though, vacuum leak.

i checked the vacuum hoses and they all seem in really good shape.
I do think its an elec prob now,,, as i can hear elec. interferance thru my radio when the car is acting up..... after looking at the rear plugs location how in the heck do you reach them???

Ok now if i want to try a different coil pack my wife owns a 97 3.8 firebird,,, would they be the same.... or if i went to the junk yard could i get a module or pack off a non supercharged 3800 or does it have to be a supercharged coil pack?

I fixed the issue,,, it was a short,,, previous owner replaced the plugs and wires,,, and a few weeks that's when I bought it,,, then later on the metal on the o2 sensor got hot was shorting out on the rear drivers side plug wire, as they were touching. So I fixed the plug wire and tied them back from each other. thanks for all the help anyhow.

as long as when u guys put the new wires on they arnt touching the o2 sensor,,, because in a few weeks the miss will come back again after it burns thru your new wires.

Read up, he posted an answer. Said the plug wires on the back side were touching the O2 sensor....when the o2 sensor got hot, it melted away the insulation on the wire and it was grounding out on the sensor housing.

yep the rear most drivers side one touches the o2 sensor and so you ganna tie it back cause if not its ganna touch 100% of the time.

I have this too on an 01 GT. it makes the noise after accelerating over 2000rpm and it is very faint when in park. it almost sounds like its coming from the cone filter i have on it? any ideas guys?
