Could be a fuel filter...could be a coil pack, could be the ICM, or a bad wire...bad o2 sensor...we throw parts out because those are the things they might be. My bet however, is a vacuum leak...check all the rubber "T" fittings around the blower/LIM/fuel rail area. They suffer from dry rot on these cars. There is also one on the TB to the EVAP canister on the back of the blower. Check that first. Cheap and easy fix...as you can buy the entire set from the dealership...for less than $30. Since it's a '97...it has the odd vacuum tree on the right side of the blower...could be rotted out there too...or you Boost Bypass Valve could be bad. See what I mean...just gotta try things to fix it. I say again though, vacuum leak.
