I had my car tuned about 2 months ago, thanks Dave, and left with no KR. well, i noticed like 1-2 degrees at WOT only at high speeds. anyways, i had an open cone at the time of tuning. i was bored and decided to do the FWI install and now i have crazy KR...up to 13 degrees. i have a scangauge II installed, i always used to look at it, but after the tune the KR wasnt there anymore, so i kinda stopped paying that much attention to it. i haven't done any mods to my car since the tune besides the FWI, so i dont know if its because of the different air intake or not. can someone please help?

Simple test... put the old one back on and see if you still have the same problem.

LOL its ok... honestly I don't think going from one open cone to another open cone thats further away will really make that difference. I would think you have something else causing the problem, but rule out the obvious first.

Yeah, im gonna have to swap filters in the parking lot when i get off work and test on the way home. i noticed like 3-4 degrees the other day but got sidetracked. on my way to work today it popped in my head again, so i floored it and it jumped straight to 13.

You're getting colder air now. Your PCM pulls up to 3 degrees of timing for hot air coming in.

    So 3* timing = 13* KR ? ? ?

this is normally the case when you tune it to a certain level of 'on the edge of knock'. i always liked mine tuned more conservatively so that it didnt knock regardless of the weather.

however, 13* of knock is a lot when it was previously < 3*.

Open Cone on the end of Throttle Body vs. FWI = skewed MAF readings...

With colder weather could easily screw the tune up that much...13* though is kinda extreme...I could see 3* or so...but from what I've been seeing, you need a LITTLE bit of pipe to smooth the airflow before the MAF when running an open cone.

Did you use a smaller filter? If so, that's totally your problem - you're starving the engine for air.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

ok, i changed it back to just the open cone filter, and the KR dropped down to 6 now. so its a bit better.

with wat u said, i think that may be my prob. When i got tuned, i had a silicone adaptor and short pipe on the end, but when i changed to the FWI i used the stock intake hose off a 99 GP and cut it in half and clamped the pipe into it. so it went from smooth pipe, to ribbed hose, to the TB. I forgot i did make that change since the tune. I gotta find the original setup i had...hopefully its still in my trunk

it was warm out when we tuned and was mid day. with the cooler air we are getting now it will throw off fueling needs add to that maf reading being diff. if you have time wednesday and want to come up we can do more tuning and dial in some tweaks in the air time spark table to better adjust for the change in temp. if you want to run the FWI then we can tune for it as well.
