I am going to go look for a MAF today or tomorrow along with that other stuff I mentined that the yard is supposed to have & if I don't find on I will have you mail me the one you have if you still have it then.

Never been there but, Arcadia is about an hour or so from me I think. I might be able to go check the car out but remember I am not Nick or Bill or one of those guys. Well I am Bill just not BillBoost, so if I go look at it you trust my opinion at your own risk. That was my "I am a dumbazz disclaimer".

Okay so this thread may never freaking die I guess. My LTFT's are still 16.4 at idle and I have checked all and replaced most gaskets and lines and can not find a leaking point to save my life. I changed the plugs from AL copper 606's gapped at .60 to NGK tr55is iridium plugs gapped at .60 car runs even smoother now. LTFT's are driving me crazy though!!! I have replaced the MAF with another ACdelco as well as an aftermarket and no change to LTFT's. I noticed that I can see the orange frame/rib of my air filter through the side of the factory air filter housing and am wondering if that is normal, or should the housing be 100% sealed around the edges? Could this be causing my trims to be off? Could the o2 sensor by the spark plugs be the problem and is there a way to check that before replacing it to verify? Sorry to keep this thread going but I guess I am a little OCD and chit I can't figure out drives me battchit!!!

Bill... Please take a moment and go to Gearchatter.com and read the FSM info on P0171. What you'll find is the FSM never suggests a bad sensor. It will say vacuum leak, pcm etc. Doesn't even necessarily get into things like power issues based on corrosion. That's where the whole battery cable talk lands us. GM never had a car long enough when they were writing the manuals to understand that sometimes it's a power related issue. I found this via a buddy when I had the problem on a Bonneville. John currently has the issue on his GP and I'm patiently awaiting him having the time to replace the other battery cable. He replaced one and his issue cut down dramatically.

when he brought the car by we checked:
EGR tube for cracks. You can not rely on smoke or TB cleaner tests to find this leak. Visual inspection only.
Vacuum leaks. Looked over things in general and knew he had TB cleanered the engine to death.
Pulled the battery cables - when doing this remove the bolt from the cable and slide the boot off. Look at the end of the cable and at the strands of the wire itself. Any corrosion can be the problem. On his car and my own, when we switched one cable the problem lessened. On mine when I swapped the second cable...the problem went away entirely. Corrosion gets down into these cables and causes issues we can't see, test for or find.. Well..maybe there's a certain resistance etc, but I haven't found a good way to test.

That being said..I didn't see you say you checked the cables yet.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I have not checked the full length of the cables but I will today.

I had went to gearchatter before and just did again, is it a dead site? I don't see any post newer than like 2008 and when I tried to search p0171 it just times out. I went ahead and sumbitted info to try and register in case that makes a difference but I can't find anything there at all yet.

Sorry to seem so needy but I NEED to figure this out or I will wind up wearing a tight white jacket with criss crossed sleeves and my bedroom walls will be made out of rubber

Dunno, work is now blocking it. When I got there, I simply type in the search bar "P0171" and it finds their tech database.

Bill, you da man!! I changed the battery cables out and my trims are spot on now and so far P0171 is no longer active. I should have listened to what you suggest to a lot of people who have had this problem a long time ago. Oh well live and learn I guess. I have learned now is how I will handle your advice from now on. Thanks!

It took me 3 or so months to locate the cable issue on my own car. Something made it tough to think that a cable that big was corroded enough to start a car and still cause a little sensor to foul up.

The funny thing is that they did not look that bad at all, but since I had to strip the wrap off in order check them, I figured I'd go ahead and replace them. New>Old most of the time for wires was the way I was thinking. Maybe the inner part of the cables were worse than the outer parts that I could see. Regardless it is all better now. Thanks again!
