No...your saying you don't need to tune cars...and I'm saying that's wrong at any level because there is always room to improve on a stock tune.
or you could have put a 3.4 pulley on, and left 16 degrees of timing... and been fine?
Again, mechanical issues are not the pcm's fault. Stock timing works well for unintercooled stuff..... Fueling not so much, but you can fix that a few ways without a pcm tune as well.
I do understand that higher timing creates more heat...but as long as it's knock free and the injectors aren't maxing out IPW's I don't see the issue with running higher than stock timing. It helps the pull up top, where these cars lack regardless. I'm sure with no knock on 18*...and a 3.5"...a tenth of an inch wouldn't have made any difference really. Only reason I had a 3.5" was because it was a press-on and at the time I had no need for an MPS...since I didn't think, like everyone...that I was ever going to get this deep into modding this car. Could you run stock timing on a 3.4", knock free and be fine? Sure...could it be faster with a custom tune...very much so.
That's what I'm getting at.
Ok, so what if it knocks when you try to run 17 degrees of timing? What happens if it knocks going from 10.8 to 11.0 afr?Sure...could it be faster with a custom tune...very much so.
The issue is you can get the edge mechanically with pulley... stock timing and on the edge boost makes more power than less boost and more timing in reality.
i think im just going to get a 3800 performance... then in a few months i will buy hptuners and screw around with it.... i cant really afford the $500 right this second with other things i want to buy
yea but getting a day i can drive to Michigan isnt the easyest
OP needs more patience.
I slapped an intercooler and a pulley four sizes smaller and the tune wasn't far off at all.
Which means you win.
And stock tunes fail...horribly.
I hate all the BS the large vendors include with their 3.4" pulley PCM.
Fans on for 2 minutes after shutdown.
Raised shift points.
Fans always on under 40MPH.
Raised rev limiter.
I like that stuff?
No? I benefit from all of those things except fans on under 40mph.
