Cool video. Makes me want it more. Just need to find that site that was all the E85 stations.
I'm pretty sure e85 wont eat metal. Its a myth.
Thanks guys! And yes the 97's and some 98's IIRC. I'm not sure if the metal eating is true or not, but I have only clogged one fuel filter and the newer one is still just fine after a couple thousand miles.
Nice vid man! I got a e85 station 5 blocks from me but i drive 60 miles a day to and from work. Not sure if i wanna chance getting stranded as there are no stations along the way. Also it's hard to find the 60-65# injectors used at a decent price. I've heard some people keep a extra pcm in the car with the standard 91-93 octane tune so that they can swap it out if they get somewhere without e-85 and run standard gas.
I actually pulled a pcm from a yard to use for my e85 tune. I carry my premium gas tuned PCM in my spare tire compartment. I figure if there is an emergency, I can just go back to gas. It only makes sense for if I need to travel.
Just remember, you can mix a couple gallons of e85 with gasoline on a gas tune, but you don't want any gas in your tank for an e85 tune. My car ran like complete crap for the first 2-3 tanks of e85 until I purged the system of that gas.
about the gas eating metal thing, y dont someone take a piece of sheet metal and some e85 and put it together in some kind of container and let it sit for a while and see if any thing happens to the metal?
Think about this. Ethanol=alcohol. beer comes in a metal can. Boom.
The problem with metal tanks, is the fact that ethonol is conductive... and you are putting a positive wire into the gas tank via the fuel pump which in turn causes an electroplating effect, that will promote the metal fuel tank to give up metal and then be plated on another surface, such as the fuel pump annode or cathode.
Who did your tune? Ryan C.?
I wanna do more mods to the prix but idk I think E85 is my only other option without spending big time bucks on a cam or intercooler..
Did you drop pulleys with e85? if so what size and was it your only mod that let you drop?
I just found out that my city will be the pilot program for Ethanol fuel in Mexico. I'm trying to figure out where the stations that have it are.
What do I need to run it besides the tune? I bet I can run at least a .1 smaller with it.
meh... I think they are planning on mixing it with regular fuel to a 6% to get started, not 100% ethanol....
These guys sell ethanol production and pumping stations:
Fuel Flex Mexico : Compras en LĂ*nea
it's expensive though, like 20K USD, but you can produce your own fuel at apparently .26 dollars per liter.
I wish I had the cash for it lol.
My 98 has a metal tank and so did my 99 parts car.
